What should I do with my retainer?!

Question: What should I do with my retainer.?
I got my braces off Nov. 24th and a week later I got my retainer. My teeth look amazing, but I think my tooth (not the BIG one, but the one right after that) is kind of shifting back. They told me to wear my retainer for a week, and then every night after that. Should I just go back to wearing it all day, or keep wearing it at night to be on the safe side.?

I do not want my teeth or tooth to go back to where it was!Health Question & Answer

well it sounds like you had what i had, but im really really surprised what they have said so maybe u havent! i had the train track style braces for a yr , and then a got the removable retainer. However, i got told to wear the retainer ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK for 6 MONTHS, and then EVERY NIGHT FOR 6 MONTHS, and then after that i could carry on wearing it at night 2-3 nights a week for the rest of my life if i wanted to ! ( they do that in the USA ) however, i only did that for another couple of months.
DON'T be dissappointed - every1 who has had a fixed brace will experience a slight movement of their teeth - mine slightly moved at the bottom - but only a slight change - you cannot prevent this, even if always wearing your retainer - this happens just as you grow. When wearing a fixed brace, the fibres if your gums and teeth are stretched, so when the brace is off, they want to go back to their original place. so by wearing the retainer, it will allow new memory fibres to form and keep the teeth in their new position. however this process is slow and will take a year, so wear the retainer for a yr.
if you only wear your retainer for a week, during the day - your teeth WILL move back, probably quite a bit, especially if they are already moving back. so i would DEFINATELY recommend what i did, especially if you want your teeth to remain straight and u wont be disappointed . u might as well - what have u got to lose.? and after all the effort with the fixed brace - it will be well worth it. good luck and i hope they stay straight!Health Question & Answer

Keep wearing it every night.
No need to wear it in the day.

After a while you will notice your teeth become less likely to move then you can wear it every other night and so on.

Gradually increase the time between you wearing it.
But if at anytime you feel your teeth moving back pop it in on the night and go back to the previous stage.

My friend had a brace and didnt wear her retainer now her teeth are back to how they were before she had the brace.Health Question & Answer

Try to make an appointment with your orthodontist and check to see if the retainer is getting loose or has any other typical problems. I have a clear retainer and my orthodontist said I should wear it everyday, all day for the first 9 months. After that I can just wear it nights. I would start wearing it more often until you can get an appointment and check out what is wrong. :) Good luck!Health Question & Answer

i don't think you tooth will go back to where it was before necessarily. nov 24 was a while ago. they told you to wear it 24/7 for a week then only wear it at night (which i'm assuming you have done/ are doing), just to clarify. continue wearing it every night for the entire night (when i say night i mean at least 8 hours) and if you really think that it is continuing to return to its original position, you should see your orthodontist. they will either tell you to wear it 24/7 for a while longer, or tighten it for you.Health Question & Answer

wear it as much as you can, especially since you feel it moving back.
i got too lazy with mine and my bottom teeth have gone worse then before i had braces.
my orthodontist told me to keep retainers on as much as possible for about 6 months then cut down....i really shud have listened!!Health Question & Answer

What my dentist did for me was take my retainer wire and permanantly placed it behind my front teeth (had gaps) so I wouldn't have to wear it, it would just stay there forever.

It takes about two days to get used to it, now I never feel it.Health Question & Answer
