Question: What should I do about this abscessed tooth.?
It started hurting 3 days ago and I went to the dentist 2 days ago. He gave me a painkiller (Tylenol 3) and some anti-bacterial pills (Cleocin 150 Mg). The dentist said this may be one of the biggest abscission's he has ever seen. The left side of my chin is totally swollen and it hurts to talk or open my mouth. I went to the emergency room last night and they gave me 30 minutes worth of IV (OUCH!) and told me to double my dose of anti-bacterial medication. So far (18 hours later) my jaw is still swollen and the pain is still here. What should I do.?Health Question & Answer

The swelling usually gets a little worse before it starts to get better. It hurts because of the infection. The antibiotics should start to be noticeably working by this afternoon to evening. When you sleep tonight, stay elevated. For pain, take 4 tablets of Advil every 8 hours (as long as you are not allergic) AND take 2 tylenol#3 every 4 to 6 hours.
