What's causing my tooth pain?!

Question: What's causing my tooth pain.?
One of my incisors has been killing me for the last three or four days. Sometimes it's a sharp, stabbing pain, other times it's a dull ache. It hurts when I chew and it's sensitive to cold. I also noticed that my gum right above it is slightly purple. I don't have dental insurance right now, or else I would go to the dentist. I brush and floss everyday, so I don't think it's a cavity...but I've never had one before so I don't know what it feels like. Any idea what that might be.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Hummm - purple gum and pain. Well, it could be that the root is diseased and you have an abscess which means you'd have to go to the surgeon and have the thing pulled out - and then you'd have to have them make you a new tooth! And a new tooth costs $1000........

Nice, hu.? Is this why we need public health in this country.?

And all the way on the other end of the scale - you might have a big ugly flake of plaque stuck to the side of the tooth which is irritating the hell out of the gum - and the dentist (or you) get hold of it with a dental pick and pull it off - problem solved.

Let us hope that it is the second scenario.Health Question & Answer

If the gum is inflammed it's probably some plaque bacteria making it sensitive...
so do this:
#1 Brush well at the inflammed area to remove the plaque, and floss also, it will bleed but don't mind that...use a soft toothbrush only and be gentle but thorough
#2 Use Sensodyne toothpaste or any anti-sensitivity toothpaste.
#3 Pat a small amount of that toothpaste on the area a couple of times during the day as well.Health Question & Answer

Sensitivity to hot/cold + pain probably means a cavity........ or maybe you need a root canal. Cavities usually take long to appear and once they get big enough they cause a lot of problems to the point where they need to be filled.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like a cavity. You should see a dentist dude.Health Question & Answer
