Are my gums supposed to look like this around a fake tooth?!

Question: Are my gums supposed to look like this around a fake tooth.?
I had a root canal done. They put a fake tooth on. I took a picture of how the gums look behind the tooth. I'm wondering if this is normal. I've noticed it before but I thought that was the metal "crown" part.
the picture is in the link. the area that i'm talking about is circled.

also, they cemented the tooth in. will it fall out over time or something.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
you have a crown on that tooth... and on the lingual side (tongue side) it is okay to look like that. i makes for a smoother edge connecting to the actual tooth. it is a metal margin that connects the crown to your tooth and if it didn't look so bad it would also be on the other side. it makes for a smoother margin so that things don't get caught and cause decay or tartar build up. nothing to worry about!

You are seeing the metal that is found under the porcelain on the crown. Usually it only shows on the backside of the tooth (like yours). It's normal. The crown SHOULD last for quite a long time, however it IS possible for decay to start around the margin. Make sure you are keeping the area very clean. Brush (gently - don't scrub), and floss every day. It's not a bad idea to use a fluoride rinse (such as Act or Fluoriguard) at night before bed. Just rinse with it after you floss and brush - don't swallow any - then go to bed (do not rinse the fluoride out). Fluoride strengthens the teeth and will help make them more resistant to decay (which should help to keep your crown healthy for longer).Health Question & Answer
