Question: I have a horrible toothache and I couldn't sleep all night last night.?
the pain is like throbbing up the side of my face. I know that I need a root canal, I have been putting of for quite some time because of money reasons, but I can't stand it anymore. I called the dentist today and the earliest they can get me in is next Thursday, (thats 9 days!)

Prescription pain killers are less effective on tooth pain than over the counter pain remedies. Try alternating ibuprofen & tylenol every other dose. Both work very well (and differently) on tooth pain. If the throbbing is accompanied by swelling up the side of your face you may have an abscess, and you may need antibiotics. Your dentist or family doctor can call in an antibiotic to your local pharmacy. Look in your local phone book for emergency dental centers, or try a different dentist. Nine days is an unreasonable ammount of time to have to wait for relief.Health Question & Answer
Nine days is unacceptable. Once you have a severe toothache like what you have described you need to be seen immediately. There isn't much worse than toothache pain and it can't wait nine days for treatment. You really need to find a dentist who has an understanding of tooth pain and is willing to help you.

Yes and they will probably give you Vicodin, at least mine always did. I'm so sorry!! For me, that pain was worse than childbirth X 2!!!! Can you see a different dentist.?!! That is an emergency situation. If they can't see you sooner, go to the ER or to see your doctor!Health Question & Answer
