How many people have gotten their wisdom teeth removed without being sedated?!

Question: How many people have gotten their wisdom teeth removed without being sedated.?
I am in desperate need for a wisdom teeth removal; only problem is, my dentist doesn't put his patients under. I guess it's cause he's a cheap a$$. How many people have gotten them removed WITHOUT gas.? And if so, what was it like.? I only know of one other person getting them done without sedation and she said it was terrible.Health Question & Answer

I was awake when I got my teeth out, my gums were just numbed. My wisdom teeth were completely through the gums, too.

It wasn't that bad, except for he forgot to put enough numbing stuff in one of my gums, which was super painful. But that was just my dentist, not all of them do that. As soon as you're done, take some painkillers and go to sleep. Once the novocain wears off, it's hell! And, sedated or not, get ready for a lot of bleeding in your mouth.

Graphic, but that's my story :)Health Question & Answer

i had two impacted wisdom teeth removed on friday without gas or iv sedation. just local anesthetic. it took all of 12 minutes and was fine. and i was EXTREMELY nervous. i was going to get the gas, but when he went over the complications from that (which are very very rare) it made me decide to just be nervous and get it over with. i have to have my other two out in a couple of months, and again i won't be getting any sedation.Health Question & Answer

I didn't want gas, I rather have a local anesthetic so the job was done and I could go and get on with the day. No big deal really just a few seconds of discomfort not acute actual pain.
There are far worst things you can have done.Health Question & Answer

i had mine removed without being sedated. Sedation will just calm you down, it really isn't for pain management. For the pain, it's the local anesthetic's work, which all dentists will administer especially for surgical removal of teeth. If you're very anxious, maybe you could ask your dentist to prescribe an oral sedative, which you will take an hour prior to the procedure.Health Question & Answer

I had all 4 removed (not at the same time) but was never sedated. It was no big deal. My dentist numbed it very well & I was o.k. I did take Advil that night. Next day, no problems.Health Question & Answer

Your dentist probably doesn't want to put you under cos it's easier to do the procedure with the patient awake( i'm not sure why). And you wont feel pain, just pressure and discomfort. I can't tell how you'll feel when the numbness wears off, because some people feel pain ( the dentist will give you pills for that) some just feel sore, while others don't feel anything. Hope you feel better soon :)Health Question & Answer
