I have had a crown fitted today..........?!

Question: I have had a crown fitted today...........?
at the dentist and have been told that I can go back if I am not satisfied, if it is too long etc. It looked ok under the dentist mirror, but now I am home, it is kind of 'bulbous' whereas my normal teeth, from front view, are quite flat (if you understand what I mean!).

Is it possible, if I go back to the dentist for them to 'flatten' the tooth.? I have always had straight even teeth and this one now looks like an onion bulb! I have paid

They will have to send for a new one to be made..they don;t make them at the dentists but at an outside lab. I have 3 crowns so know what you are talking about....he will have to replace it...mine are not bulbous like that and I had mine done on the NHS! You have paid good money and are not happy with the result...go back and tell him...you won;t be the first person to have ever gone back about this sort of thing. EDIT...my dentist would not smooth mine as it had "frills" on it...you know the ridges that appear on normal teeth...well they would dissaper if you smoothed it down.Health Question & Answer

I'm afraid crowns tend to have more depth than natural teeth but it is something you will get used to. The crown shouldn't protrude at the front, it should match your natural teeth as far as possible. If you are really unhappy go back sooner rather than later. It's difficult to remove a crown once cemented into position, but if you decide you want a replacement it would be a new crown you can't 'modify' an existing one.Health Question & Answer

Yes i understand what you mean, i had the same problem, my dentist was able to smooth mine down but i suppose it depends on how much it needs to be polished, being as though you have paid so much money if your dentist recommends you get another crown then i would say go for that option.Health Question & Answer

they can smooth/polish the tooth if they are willing too. Its in your mouth and your the one that has to live with it. You paid for it. Make sure you like it.Health Question & Answer
