How do i stop it hurting?!

Question: How do i stop it hurting.?
Right i got part of my braces fitted today (4 bits of elastic to make a bigger gap, so the train tracks will fit) but it really hurts when i put pressure on the teeth in which the elastic bands have been put in between, for example earlier i was eating my tea and i ended up leaving half of it because it hurt to eat, the bands are quite far back on both sides. I don't want to use drugs as they make me drowsy (even the non drowsy ones) and i need to stay awake a little longer (homework to do, and i can't do that if i take the medicine)

Help any other ways to stop the ache and pain.? Note: i can't have ice cream as it has sugar in it and i can't eat any more sugar like in ice cream in the lead up to getting my braces.Health Question & Answer

I got braces recently too so know how you feel. At the start, i felt lik my teeth would fall out when i ate or hit off them! Kind of loose too-its normal though! Eat soup, and drink alot. It will be ok in a day or so. And as for sugar-i take soo much of it and it doesnt matter, they said my teeth kept perfectly, so it wont harm you. Do eat sugary stuff, just not all the day. Ice cream is actualy good for your teeth-dairy product! Hope this helped!Health Question & Answer

unfortunately, its going to hurt- theres a lot of pressure on your teeth when you have those separator things.
Ibuprofen tablets are antiinflammatory- they will help with the pain and contain no ingredients that will make you drowsy. Trust me. and if you don't then you will have to put up with the pain. Good luckHealth Question & Answer

Freezing cold water. It only stops the pain for a minute though. Other than that you just have to sit it out.Health Question & Answer

I had braces as a teen and the only thing that worked for me was Paracetamol.Health Question & Answer

First of all: don't worry, it's not going to be a constant thing.

Painkillers like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol can really help, and should have no effect on how awake you are. You can try taking some cold & flu type painkillers, as these usually have some caffeine in them.

If you really, really, don't want to take painkillers, then you'll just have to grit your teeth and bear it. I mean that literally - when my braces are tightened, I find that clenching my jaws can help ease the pain a little (until the ibuprofen kicks in anyway!)

And lastly, if you're at home, an ice pack can help ease it off a little too. Try watching a good movie or something too - taking your mind off the pain really does help.

All the best - you should stop hurting in a few days hopefully!Health Question & Answer
