Question about the rubberbands for my braces?!
Question: Question about the rubberbands for my braces.?
Hello, I have had braces for over a year and have had rubber bands before for three months. I am now wearing them again as it seems my overbite is coming back. Is it normal for the orthodontist to use smaller elastics the second time than the first because they are a lot smaller and seem to hurt more (I went from 1/4 inch to 3/16 inch). Does anyone else wear 3/16 from back molar to 1st hook on top.? Thanks!Health Question & Answer

It is common to stop wearing the rubber bands and then have to start again, and to be on a different size.
When you were taken off the 1/4in rubber bands and your over bite came back a little... your jaw may not have fully gotten 'locked' into the place it should be in. The heavier rubber bands just give it some extra force to 'train' it as to where it needs to be.
It is all real common. Good piece of advice: after a couple hours the rubber bands tend to lose their elasticity... if you change them every couple of hours to new ones, it will keep the process going faster :) So change them often, it can be annoying, but it will help out!
Good luck to you!!!Health Question & Answer
