my 2 upper wisdom teeth came in at different times and were completely exposed, so a dentist did and it was fine!!!

my 2 lower teeth, NOPE, they barely poked through, hurt like heck coming in, had to be removed by a oral surgeon who put me under, i was out of work for FIVE days and on vicodin for 7 days. it HURT! the lingering pain was worse then when i gave birth.

it sucks, HOPE that they come through completely and a regular dentist can get them out. the dentist told me if ANY skin is covering them, they send you to a oral surgeon.

good luck.

EDIT: the oral surgeon told me the lowers are always worse the the uppers. mine - the roots had grown around my jaw bone and he had to stand up and yank to get them out, i woke up at the end when he was sewing me up and didn't feel a thing, till i got home and got over confident and didn't take my meds right away...big mistake. he called me about 4 days later to check on me, i was miserable cuz i was letting too much time lapse between pain meds, he chastized me, and said that taking meds is VERY important in recooperating. i could'nt lay down flat cuz the throbbing kept me up all night, i slept propped up on a pillow against a wall.

don't take it for granted that it will be a breeze, or as bad as my experience, everyone is different, take your meds, and get lots of rest. make sure you have someone good to take care of you!

EDIT: i was about 27! so i was pretty old...i think the people i worked with thought i was lying! ha ha. but i put it off as long as i could!Health Question & Answer

Every person is different so everyone's experience will be different.
I'm 26 and I had them removed a few months ago. The dr. just used a local anesthetic and waited about 15 minutes for it to take effect. He took about two minutes to pull my teeth, and I didn't feel I thing. I didn't even need pain meds after. I just took Advil the first day and I was fine. I had no problems whatsoever.
My sister (she's 23), on the other hand, had to be put to sleep because one of them was impacted. Afterwards she got a dry socket and had to go back several times to the oral surgeon to have a dressing placed. It took about two weeks for the pain to completely go away.Health Question & Answer

I had mine taken out in my late teens (19 maybe.?)

I had two separate surgeries - the first to remove one tooth and then the second to remove the other three (purely because of cost - I couldn't afford to get them all done at once and the one was bothering me more than the others.)

All of my wisdom teeth were quite impacted and the surgeon said they were difficult to remove.

They provided mild sedation & local anaesthetic for the surgery, not general anaesthetic, though I was completely out for the entire time. I had Tylenol 3s for pain management afterwards but had an exceptionally good recovery experience for both surgeries. The day after my second surgery I was out eating sushi. I had no bleeding and minimal pain and swelling, which was well managed by the T3s and ice (ziplock bag of crushed ice wrapped in a hanky and placed on the sore spots.)

The holes in my gums were stitched up, so there was no open pocket there to collect food, though I did still have to be careful not to get food stuck around the incision site.

My experience seems to have been much better than most people's. I think choosing the right surgeon makes a huge difference in your experience.

I think I was like 17 when I had them taken out...I was under general anesthetic, so I was super loopy for like the next 24 hours. You can't really tell you have holes in your gum unless you purposely feel them with your tongue. Just make sure to take all your meds and stock up on liquid foods...you're going to need them for at least 3 days afterward.Health Question & Answer

it doesn't hurt during the procedure. i had just local anesthetic, no gas or iv, and i didn't feel a thing except some slight pressure on the top. it does kind of hurt afterward and your gums will be sensitive, but you will be given painkillers by your surgeon. eating will be hard for about a week or two, so stock up on easy to eat foods that require little or no chewing. and please don't believe all of the horror stories you read.Health Question & Answer

it hurts. . .bad.
idk wahh they usxed to numb me, but i never again will get my other one pulledHealth Question & Answer
