I have a broken and extremely painful tooth but no insurance. Please help!?!

Question: I have a broken and extremely painful tooth but no insurance. Please help!.?
My tooth is very painful...it's barely even chipped, but it is causing me horrible pain. I had another tooth pulled about a year ago and I can't afford to do it again yet. Thanks to the lovely lack of health care in this country...

Anyhow, does anybody have any suggestions as far as what I can do to ease the pain (that gel and liquid stuff you can buy at the store isn't helping).?

also, if it is (and I believe it is) infected, what kind of risks am I looking at to my general health.? (How much longer can I wait before I cause damage to myself)

I tried to go to the ER for help the last time this happened. All I wanted was pain medicine and an antibiotic, but they would not help me because they said it was not a real emergency,

First off, it is a medical emergency if you are in extreme pain which probably means the tooth is absessed. I had an absessed tooth that I let sit for about a month and just popped advil. And guess what.? I woke up in the middle of the night and my neck was swollen up and I could barely swallow. I went to the ER and they HAD to pull it because the infection was killing me.

You CAN have serious problems if the tooth is absessed and you don't take care of it. Go back to ER or just find a way to pay for it. Most tooth extractions only cost about $100 to $300 if you don't get put under.Health Question & Answer

The suggestion for a dental school is a good one.

But you can also call a dentist, explain what's happening, and ask if they have a payment plan. Many will often do this if you're up front about it.

You can also call your county health department, and tell them about your tooth, and ask what services are available in your area.Health Question & Answer

Depending on the state you live in, Universitys that have dental students will offer almost 80% off to do dental work. But it is a student doing the work. You really need to get infected or broken teeth looked at as soon as possible, it could lead to the loss of the teeth you have, and maybe even heart problems if nerves get damaged. hope this helps.Health Question & Answer

I use this plan and LOVE it!! It is only 19.95 and has saved me hundreds of dollars on dental and even prescription. I also used the same plan to save $1400 on on lasik surgery. LOVE it LOVE it!!!

You MUST SEE A DENTIST.. it won't get any better... so once you have had all the pain you can stand, then you WILL see a dentist and PAY FOR IT... just like most of the REST OF US have to do. Just have the tooth pulled.. it's the cheapest.Health Question & Answer
