I dropped my retainer in the garbage at lunch, got it back, tried to sanitize, but deformed it. Help, please?!

Question: I dropped my retainer in the garbage at lunch, got it back, tried to sanitize, but deformed it. Help, please.?
It's one of the more embarrassing situations I've been in, but luckily, one of the custodians was able to find it for me, so I got it back. But when I got home, I boiled it in hot water hoping to sanitize it and kill any germs living on it. But I was never told to not put it in hot water, so it ended up getting deformed and now it doesn't fit in my mouth. I tried many times to boil it soft enough to where it could be molded back to its original shape, but no such luck came. So now, I'm most likely going to have to get a new one, but I'm worried about pricing. How much may it cost.? And in case I ever drop it anywhere again, what is the proper way to sanitize it.? Thank you so much to all my answerers.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
your not going to be able to wear it if it is deformed, it wont help you at all if it isnt fit exactly for your teeth. you can call your dentist and they may be able to get in contact with their lab and order you a new one without you even having to go in if they still have your lab prescription. next time you want to sanitize it pop it into some rubbing alcohol. then just wash it with some soap and water to get rid of the taste. it will kill any germs without risking distortion.Health Question & Answer

im sorry that happened because retainers are actually 150-200 bucks. but, you cant remold it yourself, that will just make you teeth messed up. bring the ruined retainer to the ortho office and they might be able to help fix it with out making you pay so muchHealth Question & Answer

Next time just leave it in Listerine or rubbing alcohol, either one will kill any germs, and rinse. Actually, rinsing it in Listerine is a good habit to get into anyway to keep it clean.Health Question & Answer

I don't think buying a new one will cost much, not sure of the proper way to sanitize it, maybe you should ask once you go buy a new one.? XPHealth Question & Answer
