Answers:
I have not seen headgear is a long, long time.

My daughter had the same "teeth behind teeth", and her orthodontist also used the spacers.

It will be very uncomfortable for a few days after you get braces...buy dental wax, take ibuprofen/acetaminophen, and eat soft foods.

I understand your unease, but you will have a smile that is pure dynamite after a relatively short period of time.

Different dental needs use different dental appliances--and some kids/adults who have braces love to tell exaggerated horror-stories about their braces experiences.

One of the best parts is when you notice, really notice, how your teeth are moving into their correct places. My daughter said she didn't know how painful her teeth were (pressure) until they moved into place and stopped hurting.

I'm surprised some of the answerers have had their braces for so long. May you be free of them soon!Health Question & Answer

The springs are very normal.
They just help spread teeth to reposition them where they are needed to be.
As for headgear, it is still used by almost all dentists.
It is rare, but if you do have to get it,
You most likely will only have to wear it at night,
And for only a short time of your braces life.
Just trust me,
If they tell you to do something, you should do it,
Otherwise you will just have to do it for longer and it will be more painful.
Trust me, nothing about braces is all that bad,
I've had just about it all.Health Question & Answer

Ok, well I have had braces for nearly 3 years now and never had to. But before you get the braces on, they get out the headgear and explain it to you...just in case. I believe they still use it, but only for at night. I'm not sure if the things have changed in the past few years, but to my current knowledge...yes :) They don't hurt much n e ways, don't be afraid of them!Health Question & Answer

I had braces not so long ago, and I had to wear headgear at night... There are small holes in the brackets in the back of your mouth, to insert the headgear thing into, and then that goes around your head.. if that makes any sense at all..Health Question & Answer

Yes.

Orthodontist still use headgear, when indicated. Headgear modifies the growth of the jaws, Usually trying to keep them from growing too much.

Most cases do not require headgear.Health Question & Answer
