i went to get a check-up... today, and i needed some sort of filling- anyways that was done. my dentist is really.. weird. we both know that i NEED braces =/ so he gave me this prescription to get a.. Tooth x-ray before we can proceed or sumfin. my bottom teeth are just.. like crowding ovr each other, and a bit different fr my top. He's been killing my dad to make me wear braces evr since JUNE-- but a few days through next week i might go for the x-ray thing.. but, I've got a few questions to overcome please.
-Do they hurt.?
-Will it hurt while they are doing it.?
-What cant i exactly eat.?
-How often do i need to brush.?
-how many days will the pain carry on for.?
-Would i look stupid .?.?
-Will they scrape my mouthh from the inside.?
-What is the exact procedure to get the braces.? like how does it start of, and how does it end.?
When i was in grade four, i got braces for a week or two, just for some Minor addjustments. i cant really remeber the pain but, they put something like flavoured Cream into a rubber mould and put it in my mouth nd told me to 'Bite' ... what is that all about.?
Im thirteen, just to let u know AND im a girl. xD

Answers:
-Do they hurt.?
*when you first get them on your teeth are sore. it might be about a week before they completely stop hurting
-Will it hurt while they are doing it.?
*for me, it did. if you have a low tolerance for pain, i recommend taking tylenol or something before the appointment
-What cant i exactly eat.?
*you can't eat chewy, sticky candy (starburst, skittles, twix, carmel, taffy, or anything like that), popcorn (i break this rule though..just stay away from the hard seeds and brush well afterwords), my orthodontist told me you can't eat anything that ends with "o" (dorito, hard-shelled taco, frito), corn on the cob isn't a wise choice (use a butter knife to scrape off the corn), and don't bite off carrots. this is if you want to stick by the rules. lots of people break them and pay later. You can chew gum, but make sure it is sugarless...it tastes the same anyways
-How often do i need to brush.?
*brush 3 times a day. flossing is extremely important too.
-how many days will the pain carry on for.?
*right after getting your braces on it'll be about a week
*after each appointment and getting them tightened it's about 3 days
-Would i look stupid .?.?
*no way..in fact, some people look better
-Will they scrape my mouth from the inside.?

-What is the exact procedure to get the braces.? like how does it start of, and how does it end.?
*it's hard to explain b/c to be honest it was a long time ago....basically, the orthodontist cleans your teeth, dries them, and uses a device to hold your mouth open. After that, you get the brackets glued on and the wire is put on. the time though was like 2 hours at the most...if i remember right.
*have icecream, yogurt, or pudding on hand..you'll want those foods and any soft foods when you first get the braces on
*wear a mouth guard while playing sports, if you're really worried about keeping them in shape
*i would avoid getting the color lime green for your color
*it's a good idea to brush after meals b/c food easily gets stuck in your braces

i have braces and they are not that bad. they do not hurt that much only when they tight them they might hurt for like a day but if you take some Tylenol it helps. you can not eat gum ar anything chewy and sticky like taffy but they will tell you what you can and can not eat. you will not look stupid, many people have them. the procedure takes about an hour and it does not hurt, they just like "glue" the braces to your teeth, then they put in the wire and you colored elastics. it is not that bad, trust me i have had them for like two years, you will get used to them very quickly.Health Question & Answer
