Is normal for your mouth to be extremely sore after a teeth cleaning?!

Question: Is normal for your mouth to be extremely sore after a teeth cleaning.?
I also noticed as the hygienist is cleaning that my gums are bleeding excessively. Is that normal.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes its normal. The hygienist is removing deposits of calculus (the hard yellow color material on the inside surfaces of your teeth) near the gum line. Bleeding occurs due to micro lacerations as a result of the procedure. You should be just fine. Avoid hot drinks and spicy food until the soreness goes away.
