The orthodontist might put a tool in your mouth to keep it open, with may be uncomfortable in the beginning.
First the orthodontist cleans the teeth, which may leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Then he or she glues the brackets onto your teeth.
Then he or she puts the wire in the brackets, this is where you'll feel some tightening.
Then the orthodontist secures the wire to the brackets.

Once you've had them on for a few hours, there will be pain. It just feels tight, like your teeth are being moved where they don't want to go. After a few days the aching will subside.

Once they stop hurting, in about a week, you can eat foods without it hurting. Course, don't eat anything that might get stuck in them. Or anything hard because this might knock a bracket loose, which means that you have to back in and have it reglued.

After the initial pain, your teeth get used to the gradual movement, and you forget you even have braces!
When you go back in for a wire replcement, that same tight feeling will happen again, though I found that it hurts less and less every time the wire is replaced.Health Question & Answer

I had them and they do not hurt when they are putting them on and the first day is not bad. The second and third day are probably the worst because your teeth are not used to moving like that.

It will be about a week the first time you get them on before you can eat anything you want without them hurting.

And no, they do not hurt the whole time they are on, only the first week after you get them and when you get them tightend, they hurt the next couple of days.

But push through the pain because the end result, straight and gorgeous teeth, is worth it!Health Question & Answer

I am an adult with braces for 8 months now, getting them on is no pain/soreness at all, just takes time. Try putting chapstick on your lips before going in. also, try taking Advil/Tylenol before going in to help with the soreness afterwards. You will feel the soreness for about a week or so, continue taking the Tylenol for pain. Always worked for me. As far as eating, start off with soft foods like: mashed potatoes, smoothies, jello, pudding and ice cream or oatmeal if you like this. You will be back to eating normal in a week/week and a half. Trust me, I asked this very same question on answers.

Just be patient and remeber the beautiful smile you will have when done with the braces process. The pain/soreness actually is not as bad as some make it out to be.

Everybody's mouth is different, so I can't say if it will bother you too much. They will probably feel sore a few hours after you get them on. If this happens, it will only be sore for probably a few days. It definately gets better after this and your mouth adjusts to the feeling of having them on your teeth. I had braces twice and I have talked to other people who have had braces and they have similar results. If they do bother you, you could always take Tylenol or Advil to help ease the pain, and know that in the end it will all be worth it.Health Question & Answer

They won't hurt immediately. They hurt within a few hours because your teeth start to move already. Your teeth will be sore so you won't want to chew hard foods. This might last a few days to a few weeks... for me, it lasted about a week. For my brother on the other hand, the pain was so bad that he couldn't eat hard foods for a little under a month...
They don't hurt while you're sleeping! After the initial pain goes away, they will only hurt whenever you have a checkup and get the braces tightened or the wire changed, every month.?
Remember, the wax is your friend! Having the metal in your mouth will make your mouth stress out and you'll probably get canker sores(i call them olsers)owie! I got tons of them >_< But remember to use the wax on the very back brackets, those hurt most and cut your cheeks(didn't happen to just me, but all my friends and siblings)

I had 2 sets of braces....5 years in all....and they feel and look REALLY weird for the first few days. But within a week the soreness will start to go away and you'll actually see changes in your teeth. you'll probably have to stick with eating ice cream, popsicles, soup etc. for about 3 days. after that...you will be sore but you'll feel well enough to eat hard foods.

i reccomend NOT getting colors on your teeth and sticking to tooth color..not only because they look better but they dont turn weird colors when you eat pizza for example.

send me a message if you have any questions about teeth appliances cause i've had at all. I've had everything so i'm sure i'll be able to answer any questions.

hope i helped!!
good luck

When you first get them on they dont hurt at all, but when you chew it feels like your chewing on rocks soo be sure to eat soft foods for a week and you'll get used to it. the 3rd day was the worst for me. and braces dont hurt the whole time there on . i have braces i cant even feel that there on right now. it only hurts when you get new wires and i guess rubber bands but i havent gotteen rubber bands yet so idk
goood luck
but dont worry at all in the end your teeth will be perfect and straight

when u get them on you cant feel them putting them on becuase they have your lips stretched out really really far. that does sort of hurt, but only becuase of your lips, so be sure to bring chapstick. when u first look at yourself you are gonna think you look so bad with them, but its only cuz you arent used to seeing yourself with them, and also your lips are really shriveled up and stuff. you will look normal in a couple of days.

your teeth are going to be kind of sore. you are going to want to take some advil or tylenol right after. your ortho should give you some. you are going to want to eat mostly soft foods for the first 4 days or so. becuase biting into something hard will hurt.

your teeth will be a little sore when you get your wires changed. but this only lasts for about 3 days but it doesnt hurt as much as when you first get your braces on. if you have to get chains, those hurt just about as much as when you get them on and about the same amount of time. but on other days, braces will not hurt you.

oh and btw you are going to want to use some wax when you first get them on because you are going to get sores on the inside of your cheecks and lips. but do not rely on wax too much or else you will never build up a calus, so your braces will poke you forever.

good luck!Health Question & Answer

Heres the lowdown,
Brush AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN.
Use those TiPi brushes to get rid of food stuck in the wire,
Braces are horrible, they give you mouth ulcers, so make sure you have oraldene or something that gets rid of mouth ulcers in a liquid form ( gels only move around by mouth action, and they suck.)
Umm, they hurt me so much I asked to get them taken off, which sucked tbh but im not too bothered, as long as my teeth are white its fine :) erm, not much else apart from just brush brush brush when you get the chance, after food, before bed, when you get up, and yeah, dont get coloured braces either they look really bad and tacky.
Good luck, you'll need it!Health Question & Answer

at first they just feel very weird, they may feel as if theyre going to fall off, but trust me they wont

stick to soft foods for the first week or so, after that you should be back to pretty much normal

no they dont hurt the whole time, you'll get used to them pretty quickly
