I'm getting a crown for my upper first molar (right side).. and I have a choice between porcelain or gold. Which one should I get for the molar.? One that is durable and will last a long time! :)Health Question & Answer

In my 17 years of experience as a dental assistant and hygienist, BY FAR the gold crown should last longer. I have a gold crown on my upper 1st molar. Porcelain, even when it has metal under it, can fracture and while the crown may still be "functional" it will then just look like a metal crown. Gold is the most compatible to the tooth and can be made thinner next to the tooth so can be kept cleaner which means less chance of getting a cavity under the crown. I have patients that have had gold crowns for 40+ years and they have had no problems.Health Question & Answer

did they not give you an option for a PFM crown.?.? (Porcelain fused metal) gold is the strongest and i do not recommend Porcelain for a molar. and some people dont enjoy having gold showing in their mouth so with a PFM you get strength(not as much as gold but more than Porcelain) and a reg tooth color.
Maybe call around to see if anyone does PFM's or double check with your dentistHealth Question & Answer
