Orthodontist related question about creating space for crooked teeth?!

Question: Orthodontist related question about creating space for crooked teeth.?
I had crooked teeth on the bottom. I didn't have enough space (needed about 1/2 cm) so they were positioned weird. In order to create space, without pulling teeth(which would create too much space), my orthodontist pushed the front of my bottom teeth towards the outside.

Needless to say when I lost my retainers they naturally recited back in. So once again it is crooked. I know if I just get new retainers I can force it back out, but my mom sees that it is pointless. Since when it was pulled out straight it was not a very natural position. So unless I wear retainers for the rest of my life it will always recite back to original crooked position. Unlike my top teeth that have stayed in good position even after I stop wearing retainers.
So my question is: Is there a better solution to my bottom teeth space problem that what my orthodontist came up with.?
Should I just get retainers (clear ones) to force back into position or just find a new orthodontist to get braces again.?
Any input would be great. Thanks :)Health Question & Answer

I'm a dentist.

Tipping teeth outward toward the face (rather than inward toward the center of the mouth) is a common practice for creating space to align teeth.

Asking if there's a "better" solution for crowded teeth than what you originally had done isn't really a good question. Why.? Because it depends on what was causing the crowding. For some patients, flaring the teeth is a very appropriate solution. For other patients, it's an ok solution. And for others, it's an inappropriate solution.

As for wearing a retainer to fix your relapse, that's unlikely. Obviously, check with your orthodontist and see what can be done.

Keep in mind that relapse is very common after orthodontic therapy. That's why they give you retainers! Hell, that's why retainers are called "retainers". Because they retain the teeth in their proper positions after orthodontic therapy! Depending on the type and amount of orthodontic movement, along with other factors, patients can have varying degrees of risk for relapse. For some cases, retainers must be worn indefinitely.Health Question & Answer

I would absolutely get a second opinion on this from another orthodontist. It's very important to do this considering how much time and money is spent on braces. Orthodontics require great skill and that skill varies WIDELY. There is not always one single way to solve alignment problems. Many people need to wear a retainer while sleeping for the rest of their life to maintain tooth alignment. You might want to ask another orthodontist/cosmetic dentist about veneers and tooth sculpting. It might be a way for you to avoid the retainer.Health Question & Answer

Worked at an Ortho Office, I had braces and retainers, mother was an office manager for a dentist.Health Question & Answer
