Sometimes my molars hurt when I chew. This is not very uncommon, unless you are one of those freaks that brushes their teeth ten times a day :)

It's probably the sensitive nerves and roots down below. Some people's teeth/roots are far more sensitive than others. Some ways you can tell how sensitive your teeth are:
-Do your teeth hurt when using whitening products.?
-Do your teeth hurt a while after chewing gum/chewy candy.?
-When eating something cold, do you get "tooth freezes".? (Tooth freezes occur when you eat something cold and your teeth feel like they are getting tighter. All that's happening is your nerves are reacting to the cold.)

What I do is not chew on the side of my mouth that has the aching molar and suck on an ice cube. When you brush your teeth, brush for twenty extra seconds in that tooth's area. Remember to mouthwash and floss!

If it still hurts the next morning, you should probably go get it checked out by your dentist.Health Question & Answer

Brush the area first. Its possible that you do have a cavity starting (your enamel is getting weak in that area, not quite a cavity yet). When your enamel gets weaker, your nerves are getting exposed and that area becomes very sensitive. You could also have something stuck, like a popcorn kernel or a piece of food (it can be anything really, you'd be surprised at what gets stuck in your teeth and causes irritation).
Another possibility is that the gum shifted your molar a little bit. Sugary gums tend to be really sticky, like Hubba Bubba. One piece of sugary gum isn't going to give you a lot of pain, but it could have triggered something that has been building up. I suggest you go see a dentist if the pain continues over the next day or two.
You can test to see if it is a cavity by eating chocolate and chewing it in that area or taking a gulp of icy cold water and making sure it goes over your molar. If you get a freezing pain, you might have a cavity starting or a weak spot that will turn into a cavity in time.Health Question & Answer

just because you had gum and it was sugar less dosnt mean you dont have a cavity. they dont randomly appear in one day.
If it isnt a cavity then your gum might be a little sore or swolen try brushing more near the gum.
If it still hurts in 2 days go to your dentistHealth Question & Answer
