Haven't used retainer in years...?!

Question: Haven't used retainer in years....?
I had braces from the 8th grade to the middle of 9th grade. I am now a freshman in college and I haven't worn my retainer at all since it was given to me. My bottom teeth have shifted a little and i'm worried... I don't want them to get so bad that I have to get braces again in the future... Do you think it's too late to pop in my bottom retainer and try to fix the shifting teeth.?.?.?.?.?.? also, if you think I should pop it in, how long do you think I should wear it 24/7 before I can go back to just wearing it at night.?.? Please answer ALL parts of this question!!! Thank You!!!Health Question & Answer

I did the same thing! My bottom teeth shifted, however I wore my retainer again for about six months, even though it hurt for a while, it straightened them back again. My orthodontist said that I could leave it alone, or wear the retainer at night only. I do not have a problem with them anymore!!! It has been 10 years since I had to wear them for the second time!!! My bottom teeth are the same now.Health Question & Answer

Personal experience!!!!Health Question & Answer

I would start wearing it 24/7 for maybe a week and see if you see changes at all. If you don't then your teeth probably arn't gonna move with just a retainer.. I got my braces off about 2 years ago and I wear my retainer every night still, and I havn't noticed any changes in my teath. I would keep wearing it every night for a few years, maybe the rest of your life. Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer

Well, I got my braces off back in september,
and I only wear mine at night.
I'm suppose to be wearing it all the time, but I'm not.lol

yes you can pop it in, but it may not fit. if it does, then
yea, do it. Keep it in as much as possible. sleeping, taking
a shower, just hanging out at your house.
you don't necessarily have to wear it ALL the time. Just most
of the time.Health Question & Answer

can you answer mine please.?.?
I know this is weird question..

I got my braces off a while ago, and I still use my plastic retainers. They actually help a lot, because I no longer grind my teeth a night. But I would see your orthodontist firstly. I doubt they'll fit. Since you haven't been wearing the retainers for so long, there is a slight chance you might get braces again, but I doubt for more than a couple months.Health Question & Answer

No, since they "shifted a bit" the retainer would do you much good. A retainer is supposed to retain the position of your teeth. Go back to your dentist who issued the retainer and make a new one if you feel the need. I'm in the same boat but my teeth look fine. They shift because your teeth are alive.Health Question & Answer

i would waer them 24/7 for a while cause you will get braces again
if you dont but if ya dont to wear them as much as poosibleHealth Question & Answer

im in the same exact position. my retainers are those plastic clear kind and they barely fit at all.. i think u need to get ur retainers adjusted to fit right again. and maybe see ur ortho.Health Question & Answer

just wear it at night or get the metal bar put in behind your first front 6 teeth that most people have. best of luck.Health Question & Answer

It probably won't fit. You may have to go back to the orthodontist.Health Question & Answer

follow up with your dentist and orthodontist.Health Question & Answer
