Root canals and crowns...details below?!

Question: Root canals and crowns...details below.?
I am getting a root canal done tomorrow. I asked about 4 different dentists and two of them said yes and two of them said I can wait on it and I don't need it now. So now I am just confused. Two of them said I still have a lot of tooth structure left, and the other 2 said if I don't get a crown, my tooth can break off if I chew. My question is, for anyone who knows or experts out there, the root canal I need will be on tooth 9, which is my front tooth. We as humans don't really chew on that tooth all that much, so if I bite on an apple or something or bite on pizza or something, will that tooth be broken.? I mean I don't want my whole tooth to break off. I mean, will it really become so brittle that it will break off easily.? I have 2 large fillings on that tooth. Should it be something I should worry about.? I don't want to have my whole tooth break off, and end up having to extract it. I also heard that it can take years for a tooth to become brittle. Root canals and crowns are no fun, but I would have it crowned to be on the safe side. My dentist always told me that if the tooth breaks or cracks there is a chance it can crack down into the root, then you have to have the tooth pulled. That did happen to me and I had to have an implant done and that is quite an expensive and extensive process.Health Question & Answer

Remember a root canal basically means the tooth is dead. If you don't crown it, the exposed tooth will dry up and break or shatter much easier. If the tooth is crowned, the root below will stay moist and strong, even though it is still dead.Health Question & Answer
