Why can I bench more at the gym?!

Question: Why can I bench more at the gym.?
I recently started a strength training program at the gym. There, I was benching 5 reps of 50kg - 3 sets. I then decided to get a home gym, and once I had set it up, I put on 40kg (as the bar weighs 9kg), and I couldn't even manage one rep.. Does anyone know why this is.?

I am almost certain that I was benching 50kg at the gym as the plates were measured in kg. also, I was using the same spotter both at the gym and at home...

Could anyone help me out.? Thanks heaps.Health Question & Answer

You may have answered this yourself - you say the bar at your home gym weighs 9kg but do you know what the bar at the gym weighs.? Some bars are quite light. Maybe next time you visit the gym, try lifting just the bar and then lifting a 10kg weight and see if there's much difference.Health Question & Answer
