my mom is overweight and i want to help her but i'm not sure on how to :[ . i'm scared she might have some health problems in the future. my mom is 48 and like more than 150ish lbs overweight. help me :'[Health Question & Answer

Here's my best advice for your mom and I know what she's going through because I lost 85 pounds five years ago on Weight Watchers. BTW...that's a great program if you could get her to join. She needs to go to the weekly meetings though--that makes all the difference in the world.

When your mom starts dieting, she needs to lose weight in five pound increments. It's too overwhelming to think about losing 85 pounds or 150 pounds...so 5 pounds at a time.

One easy thing she could do is the "no-diet diet". She can make these simple changes for a few months and lose some weight easily without all the pressure of a "formal diet."
1) Weigh yourself once a week, at approx. the same time, wearing approx. the same thing.
2) Try to make the healthiest choices possible when choosing food. For example, choose brown rice over white rice. Choose whole-grained bread over white bread, etc.
3) Eat half of your normal portion at each meal.
4) Never skip breakfast as it wakes up your metabolism and gets it working for the day.
5) Only allow yourself one sweet on Saturday and one on Sunday (unless it's a special occasion like a birthday).
6) Drink mostly water and plenty of it. Save sweet drinks for special occasions. Limit soda-even diet. Skim milk is excellent!
7) Try to hit all the major food groups when choosing your food: lean protein, veggies, fruits, whole-grains, low-fat dairy.
8) Be more active. Ride your bike, take a walk, put on some good tunes and dance, jump rope, etc. Try to do something that leaves you huffing and puffing for 30 minutes each

If you eat that way and have 3 small, healthy meals a day and 2 small, healthy snacks, you will lose weight. Each meal should be less than 400 calories and each snack should be about 100-150 calories. Eating highly nutritious foods is the key, so think in terms of lean protein, veggies, whole-grains, fruits, low-fat dairy, and heart-healthy oils.

The second option is to do a short-term "drastic diet" that is designed to last for 2 weeks max. This would take off the most weight rapidly. There are several on the site under "Diet Plans" but my favorite is the 5-4-3-2-1 diet.

You get to pick what you eat, but you're going to want to pick highly nutritious foods to keep your metabolism working efficiently. The biggest component to fast weight loss is going to be your workout. You will want to make sure you do a good cardio workout every day for weight loss (3 times a week is sufficient to maintain health). Activities that use the large leg muscles burn the most calories. These activities also tone the lower body quite effectively. Think in terms of
power walking, jogging, biking, skating, swimming laps, jumping rope, dancing, racquetball, and jumping jacks. To make sure that you're burning fat, you need to be sweating and huffing and puffing. In addition, do some good stretches and some strength training.

If you want your mom to lose the weight fast, I suggest you use proactol. My mom and aunt swear on it. A week after they started using it, we all noticed their rapid weight loss.
