Kim you have hit the nail on the head - not just for yourself but for many, many people who struggle with their weight issues - which I suspect you do. This is not a diet question; it is a self-esteem question. The tragic thing is that it's a vicious circle: the more you hate yourself, the more you eat - the more you get fat - the more you hate yourself. To break this cycle takes a lot of hard work and effort - but it can be done. You can actually use the weight issue in reverse to how you are using it now - because when you start to lose weight and look better you will begin to like what you see and start to feel proud of yourself.

If you are in the UK, there is a new government scheme in which you can engage with a Health Trainer who will work with you to devise a personal health plan. You would find out about this through your GP. If you are not in the UK there may be similar services but you may have to pay for it.

I have some personal experience of this: I was seriously overweight for ten years and I felt bad about myself. In the last 12 months I have lost 4 stone (56 lbs) - simply because I decided that I'd had enough of it. The power of your own decision can do this - its not impossible. Start now and choose a better life for yourself. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

If you are only eating when you get home, make sure that you don't have crappy food in the house. See a doctor or a dietician to help you make good food choices and work out a meal plan.

You sound like you may also benefit from talking to a counsellor about yoru self-image and emptiness.

Are you getting much exercise.? Exercise not only gets the body working but the brain too, and it releases more happy chemicals into your body. You could consider joining a gym or a social sporting competition which will not only enable you to be active but will also give you a social outlet and a reason to get out of the house.Health Question & Answer

Simple, a low carb diet.

Ignore the people who are telling you to just eat in moderation (in which I'm sure you are). They have no idea what it's like being addicted to food, and take it from me, I've been in your shoes.

Here's your choices- a low calorie diet, or a low carb diet. Low calorie tend to minimize how much you can eat, meaning all foods with substance have a significant amount of calories. If you love food so much, this may not be right for you. However, your other option is a low carb diet. You can virtually eat as much food as you want (as long as it's low in carbs), and the other plus side is that the protein that meat, eggs, etc. have, keep you full. I'd recommend a low carb diet in your case. The other kind of diet people do is the low-fat diet. DON'T DO THIS. In the 70's, people were taught that fat was a bad thing. Well, years have passed, and not only is the generation fat, but many of the long term results show that they aren't any healthier than the rest of us.

Let's face it, your body has two fuels it uses to burn for energy. Carbs (glucose) and fat (ketones). Your body will always burn glucose before ketones. Why.? Because our bodies store fat for emergencies. Since we don't really have to worry about starving to death, why continue stuffing your body with more carbs.? Your body will never get around to burning fat, when it has to burn carbs (glucose) first.

I'm a 5'10 guy. I weighed 230 lbs about 8 months ago. I started going on a low calorie diet. I was on it for a while and dropped down to 204. I was getting tired of eating little food, and I switched to a low carb diet (eating less than 30g of carb a day) and quitting cokes, candy, etc. I dropped down to 178 in about two months. And the best thing, I'm rarely hungry! It's nice to be able to live without constantly thinking about food, and I look better and life's better in general!

If you'd like me to give you some sources on how to get started, please, by all means, let me know! I hope this helps and good luck!Health Question & Answer

That's where you are going wrong! With not eating much the whole day!

Here are a few tips;

WHEN to eat for losing weight...

? Eat (at least) three times a day.
Because when you eat only once a day, your metabolism gets slower than it already is! That's the main reason. Sounds funny, but to lose weight... you must eat (the right things, of course)
? Eat low-fat, high-fiber foods such as salads and vegetable pastas.
? Your last meal should be before 18:00. Try.
OK, one apple after 18:00
? Don't starve
Starvation is not good for losing weight, nor your health.
Starvation is the worse thing you can do in a weight loss diet.
? Try oatmeal instead of cornflakes for breakfast--eating oatmeal can help reduce cholesterol levels, and its high fiber content will keep you full longer.

WHAT to drink for losing weight...

? Drink 6-8 glasses of water every day !
Can be tap, plain, mineral, sparkling. I just love mineral sparkling water!
This improves your bowel, reduces the "hunger" sensation, and hydrates your skin. Your skin will look much better after the first weeks!
Don't believe the slogan "water makes me fat". Beside being stupid... you might get into serious troubles with your kidneys.
? Drink ONLY natural juices, freshly squized!
Don't drink Coca Cola, Pepsi, Spite etc. during the diet. Even lite or light versions.
? Avoid those vending machines by carrying around your own healthful foods and leaving pocket change at home.

exercise for losing weight...

? If you want quicker results - exercise would be good.
? Don't just sit in front of the TV and eat peanuts...
I guarantee THIS won't work for your weight loss...
? Start a regular exercise program and stick with it. Don't be afraid of those sweat suits and Lycra pants!
? Start swimming. Swimming is an excellent exercise to get involved with, since it increases blood flow and uses muscles we don't regularly use. Start a swimming program and try to do it 3 times a week. You will feel excellent and rejuvenated.
? Choose an exercise program that you enjoy, and don't shun the unconventional. For instance, did you know that regular vigorous dancing is exercise too.?
? also Cardiovascular exercises such as running, jogging, or aerobics will help you lose that unwanted belly fat. Weight training can also help you lose body fat because the more muscle mass you have, the more ability your system has to burn body fat.

Good luck!
