Walking on campus: good workout?!
Question: Walking on campus: good workout.?
I don't really exercise, but I do walk every day on my college's campus. From building to building you can take as little as 5 minutes or as much as 20. By the end of the day, I usually walk more or less about an hour total. So my question is, does that really count as exercise (meaning if it has any effect) or should I try walking for an hour straight without the stops in between.?

That does count as exercise, and being active. It doesn't completely satisfy health requirements, although it certainly helps. Specifically, to maintain good cardiovascular health you need to be spending about 45min (more or less continuously) 3+ times per week, exercising at a 'moderate to vigorous' level. Be it running, cycling, swimming, playing a sport, hiking hard or (somewhat debatable) speed walking; something that gets your heart rate up and keeps it there for an extended period of time.
Walking whenever possible is still very good for you and will burn quite significant calories, it just isn't really enough on it's own.Health Question & Answer
