Does Adipex really help you to lose weight and how fast?!

Question: Does Adipex really help you to lose weight and how fast.?
I'm 23 year old mother of 3 and I can't seem to ever lose the amount of weight I want or fast enough. I'm sure that's most people and most women. Well I've been struggling with diets and my kids keep me very busy but the weight (mostly just belly) won't go away. Most of my friends diet and take diet pills all the time and the one they say works most effectively is Adipex. I want to know if it works for everyone/most and how fast does it start taking weight off.?
Any other information as well (side affects, risks, cost, how well it worked for you if it did, etc).

thanks :)Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Adipex contains the drug Phentermine, a centrally acting appetite supressant (1). Helps you lose weight because you don't feel like eating because you are "high".

I strongly recommend against using this drug for these reasons:
- It is a stimulant (similar to amphetamine) (2)
- It is habit forming (addictive) (2)
- It has been associated with valvular heart disease and the rare but serious risk of pulmonary hypertension (1)
- Once you go off it the weight you lost will come back (1)
- If you become/are pregnant - causes addiction and birth defects (cleft palet, heart defects, slow growth) in unborn child
-

There is a long list of possible side effect from the USP data sheet:
elevated blood pressure; skin disease, rash, or hives; decreased
stamina; swelling of feet or lower legs; trouble breathing; severe headache; fainting; numbness; difficult or painful
urination; talking, feeling, and acting with uncontrollable excitement and activity; fast or irregular heartbeat; chest
pain; changes in sexual desire or ability; false sense of well-being; psychotic episodes; irritability, nervousness,
restlessness, trembling or shaking; trouble sleeping; drowsiness; unusual tiredness or weakness; mental depression;
constipation; dizziness; dry mouth; nausea; vomiting; stomach cramps or pain; blurred vision; diarrhea; increased
sweating; changes in amount and frequency of urination; and unpleasant taste. Possible allergic reaction to material if
inhaled, ingested or in contact with skin. (3)

And it will agrevate the following conditons s should not be taken if you are allergic, agitiated, alcoholic, past drug addict, had/have mental health problems, anorexia, suicidal tendencies, heart conditions, glaucoma, tourette's, kidney problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism. (3)

also it interacts with alot of meds (especially MAOI's - a type of antidepressant and other stimulants and appetite suppressants) and alcohol. (3) also it impairs driving so you can't drive when taking it. (2)

I recommend if you have trouble with your appetite try Hoodia, its a natural herb that makes you not feel hunger but its not a stimulant. There is little information avaliable about it other than the history behind it, it was use by people traveling through the desert to starve off hunger pains when the went for days to weeks without food. no known side effects or interactions.

Another option is St John's Wort, its not an appetite supressant per se, its actually a herbal antidepressant, therefore if you are an emotional eater this will help. This herb interact with LOTS of medications including the contraceptive pill and other antidepressants, therefore always tell you Dr. and Pharmacist if you are taking this.

But in the end its still all about the amount of energy that goes into your body and the amount that goes out... therefore comes down to healthy diet and exercise, especially if you want to maintain your weight loss.Health Question & Answer

Three steps that have really helped me are dieting, exercising, and the correct weight loss supplement for losing weight. Focus on those three things and you will lose weight considerably. I exercise 30 mins a day along with taking Proactol, a natural weight loss supplement that I saved money on at theweightlossplace.com

Good luck and stay focused = )Health Question & Answer

This pill does work but it is currently prescribed to people who are obese. The link below should answer some of your questions. Health Question & Answer

Hey there, I think I can help you.
My dad took adipex a few years back and I witnessed it all. The first few days were fine, he slowly ate less and less and started getting smaller. It worked really fast and we definitely could see results but then the problems started arising:
he couldnt eat ANYTHING and i mean anything! whenever he even had a bite of food, he'd get this horrible stomach ache and that discouraged him from eating at all. I saw him deteriorate slowly, he couldnt walk, or do anything, He was on the couch the entire day and was lifeless. He had no energy whatsoever and looked pale. My mom and I saw all this and freaked out. We told him to stop taking the pills cuz if he had continued, he woulda ended up in the hospital as he couldnt eat or drink....it was horrible.

Please please dont take diet pills. They are so bad for your health and have major side effects. I myself am also 23, but have never had kids. I used to be really big and just by eating smart, much less portions, and working out vigorously (an hour of cardio a day, everyday, lots of sweat) I was able to lose 50-60 pounds. Eventhough I've lost that weight, I still have a lil tummy and that is just from all the lose skin left over (i need a tummy tuck lol). But just dont do pills and do it the natural way. If you need any advice just email me, id be glad to help. You are a busy mom and your children need you so dont do anything that might pose a threat to your health like diet pills can.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer
