Yoga or Pilates??? what is best?????????!

im 21yrs old 5'5 140 lb..i want to be at least 130-135 lb and get a nice toned body, flat tummy nice butt nice legs nice arms etc....i dont have time to go to the gym, i go to school then work and get home at 9:30PM so i was just thinking of getting a video of yoga or pilates to do at home for at least 30min. but i dont kno what would be best for me! what would you recommend.?.? yoga or pilates, whats the difference and what helps more tone my body and loose my 5-10lb and have an AWESOME body.?.?.?.?.?.? thank youHealth Question & Answer

Neither Pilates or Yoga is the only solution. It sounds like you have an opportunity to walk since you're in school. You should take full advantage of that b/c it's the only time you'll be able to squeeze in your necessary cardio. also, packing a lunch or at least bringing pre-packed healthy snacks to school will help you lose the extra weight.

As for Pilates and Yoga, both work different muscles. Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates who was injured in the war. He learned to strengthen his core to support his entire body from a hospital bed and that is why Pilates is more of a core/ab workout.

Yoga, is both a mental and physical workout. Yoga strengthens the arms, legs, back and mind, but can be slightly more dangerous (in the long run) if you don't do the poses correctly. I recommend trying a class first before trying a video.

As for Pilates/Yoga workouts, I recommend:

Your question is difficult for several reasons.

First, there are differing styles of both Pilate's and Hatha yoga.
Some of the main Pilate's styles are original(classic), Stott, Winsor, plus others.
Contemporary(modern) Hatha yoga has easily over a dozen styles, and can be quite different.
Astanga Vinyasa is much more vigorous than Yin yoga.
Iyengar yoga is quite unlike Bikram yoga.

Second, it sounds like you plan to follow a video, as opposed to learning from an instructor who can suggest improvements and answer questions as you go.
Some will say yoga asana does not work your core muscles as well as Pilates. This depends more on the style, and upon how it is taught.

If your intention is an activity only for physical health/improvement, I would probably suggest Pilate's.

I have Winsor Pilates and I love it.
It came in a package with Buns and Thigh Sculpting and Ultimate Upper Body.
Theyre both only 20 minutes.
I dont really do the Upper Body one alot because I have more or a problem with my butt and thighs, but theyre both really easy.
On the Lower Body one all you do is lie on the floor and move your legs around!
Plus, you can lose lots of inches.
Ive heard of people loosing like 2 inches in 2 weeks.

Pilates will give you a nice toned body and it also strengthens your inner core ( uterus,bladder etc.) which many women never think about . This is very beneficial ( especially when you get older ) to a womens body especially if your planning on having children anytime.Health Question & Answer
