Running burns the most calories, walking burns the least. When most people calculate calories burned, they often forget to subtract out the number of calories they would have burnt if they were just sitting in front of the TV. For example, if I walk 6 miles in 2 hours, I'll burn a certain number of calories. But if you run those same 6 miles in 1 hour then watch TV after you come home, you'll still be burning calories in front of the TV while I'm still out walking.

Here's a guideline (from the source quoted below), multiple your weight by .63 to get calories per mile running, and by .3 to get calories per mile walking. So a 100 lb runner would burn 630 calories in 10 miles, but if he walked the same distance, he would only burn 300 calories.

Of course, the exercise that burns the most calories is the one that you'll do consistently. If you hate running, but love walking, then you're more likely to do the walking so that's the exercise for you.Health Question & Answer

Running. I heard years ago that exercising at 60% of your maximum heart rate (220 minus your age) burns the most fat. I don't know if any research has been done to prove it wrong since then but generally speaking the higher the intensity of an exercise, the higher the amount of calories burned. Running, but it depends of the temp. It also depends if your liver is full of carbos or it is empty.

I personally prefer veloergometer, because it put muscles on your legs while burning fats.
