Answers:
It depends on whether your goal is endurance or strength training. For strength training you want low reps and use weights that are around 70% of your max (the most you can lift for 1 rep with perfect form) for anywhere from 6-12 reps. You should reach muscle failure (Can't do anymore reps) by rep 10 or 12, if you are bodybuilding it should be around rep 8 or 10, for pure strength training, rep 4 or 6. Those are basic guidelines for strength training.

Beyond twelve reps will give you more endurance than strength. Some may go beyond 12 reps for that 'toned' look, or if they don't want to get big muscles.Health Question & Answer
