it all depends.
Most likely it will be pretty sturdy. In the United States, the diameter is usually around 5 cm (2 inches), allowing it to be gripped comfortably with one hand so don't worry about it falling down or anything.
But, if i were you i wouldn't worry about the pole holding you, but you holding the pole. Upper body and core strength are important to proficiency, which takes time to develop. Advanced pole dancing requires significant strength and endurance.
but don't buy the home versions that people use for aerobic exercises because they aren't as sturdy....
