I'm wondering this myself.
All I know so far is this:
Warm-up beforehand. Cold muscles are more susceptible to injuries and light tearing. In other words, pain!
Cool-down afterward. I think this may help expel some lactic acid, but I'm not sure on that one. It seems to help, though.
Drink plenty of water and breathe as deeply as possible to help expel as much lactic acid as you can.
Stretch after, not before. I know, I know, we weren't taught that way! New studies, as per my hockey coach. Apparently stretching beforehand reduces maximum power output, but stretching after increases the benefits of your workout AND helps release lactic acid.
It all helps, but I wish I could get over the soreness faster, too! I'd like to do a lot more!Health Question & Answer
