Cardio and Weight training?!

Question: Cardio and Weight training.?
I want to introduce some cardio to my workout but I don't want to lose muscle mass. Would it be a good idea if I run in the morning and take a protein supplement (Nitro-Tech) after to feed the muscle and to prevent from burning it.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Most forms of cardio eat away at muscle mass. You can do High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on the treadmill. That is a very high intensity cardio, but it completely preserves muscle mass, making it very popular for bodybuilders. Not only that, but it burns fat 9 times more effectively than any other form of cardio. Look up how to do HIIT here:

If you plan on running in the morning on an empty stomach, not good. That is optimal for fat loss, but it is also a very quick way to lose muscle mass. Your body is in a catabolic state upon awakening (state where muscle mass is used as fuel for energy).

This is because you most likely didn't have any protein during the night, and you need protein every 3 hours to stay out of a catabolic state, and in a positive nitrogen balance (anabolic state). This may have confused you, but basically, just don't do cardio on an empty stomach.

Even if you did have slow-digesting protein before sleeping, it has been used up by the time you have woken up, so eat first, then do cardio an hour later. After cardio take a fast-digesting protein supplement; I'd recommend whey over Nitro-Tech. By the way, HIIT should be done on off days from weightlifting.Health Question & Answer

When it comes to all the supplements for weight lifters, there is just as much debate. While some of these supplements have been proven to improve gains slightly, I am not sure the benefits outweigh the costs for most of these types of supplements. Other than maybe taking an amino-acid supplement post workout (a good whey protein shake will have all the amino-acids you need for proper recovery), I would suggest saving your hard earned money for more important things.
