Your most valuable weight loss advice?!

Question: Your most valuable weight loss advice.?
This isn't for me. I'm currently in the process of losing weight...

I'm 22 years old and I've tried allot of times to lose weight. Some ways worked, others were just fads, scams, and were doomed to never work.

I joined weight watchers. That worked but, I didn't stay committed, and after a while I came up with a million and one excuses to not continue. I was at school, had too much homework.

I've finally accepted that I was eating food because it made me feel good. Nobody over eats because they need to. There's always a reason why they do it, and once you figure out the reason you can figure out how to eliminate bad habits.

Ok so what I've learned during my latest and best attempt at weight loss is that, unless you want to lose the weigh, truly want it, it will never happen.

That is my motivation this time. I'm doing it for me this time. Not to look good, or anything else, but to prove to myself that I can do it.

I've learned that it feels better to be hungry, and eat when your hungry rather than the feeling you have after you've over eaten.

What have you learned that has really surprised you during your journey to becoming fit.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Remember that to add fat to fat cells you must have surplus blood sugar and insulin to put that blood sugar into the cells.

You can feed the rest of the body adequately without providing that surplus insulin by avoiding pushing your glucose level up.

By contrast, exercise does lower your glucose and insulin levels, but eating enough to drive the glucose and insulin levels up will already have stored the glucose in your fat cells shortly after your meal. To avoid that and still have food for energy, your food must avoid pushing your glucose level high, and supply the glucose spread out from one meal to another.

Expressed in a simple way, eat foods in moderate quantities that are low on the Glycemic Index. Instead of eating a big meal, eat a small meal and a snack later. But by all means avoid foods high in sugar and finely ground grains. Most urgently avoid drinks sweetened with corn sugars or syrups.

Dont even eat a lot of fruit at one time because it will drive up your blood glucose level, your insulin level, and it will thus drive that glucose into your fat cells.Health Question & Answer

Hi, I lost 85 pounds five years ago (on Weight Watchers) and what I've learned is that most people have it backwards when they wait for motivation before attempting weight loss. I'm a firm believer that if you power through with a weight loss plan for two weeks, that your success will excite and motivate you and then you'll be prepared for the long haul. I've learned that weight loss is an endurance test--consistency over time is the key. Being good in spurts doesn't work--you need to be consistently good over a period of time to be successful.

Here's is my best weight loss advice:
There's two ways you could go and I think either way will work for you. First of all, my best suggestion is to learn to eat healthy.

That means understand the food pyramid, the food groups, the recommended servings, etc. That is how you should eat for life! If you eat that way and have 3 small, healthy meals a day and 2 small, healthy snacks, you will lose weight. Each meal should be less than 400 calories and each snack should be about 100-150 calories. Eating highly nutritious foods is the key, so think in terms of lean protein, veggies, whole-grains, fruits, low-fat dairy, and heart-healthy oils.

The second option is to do a short-term "drastic diet" that is designed to last for 2 weeks max. This would take off the most weight rapidly. There are several on the site under "Diet Plans" but my favorite is the 5-4-3-2-1 diet.

You get to pick what you eat, but you're going to want to pick highly nutritious foods to keep your metabolism working efficiently. Again, the "eat healthy" page can help you determine what highly nutritious foods are, if you need help with that. If you go on the short-term diet, then once it's over, follow the guidelines on the "eat healthy" page.

Make water your main source of hydration and save the sweet drinks (even diet) for special occasions. Eliminate as much salt and sugar from your diet as you can.

The biggest component to fast weight loss is going to be your workout. You will want to make sure you do a good (30 minute minimum) cardio workout every day for weight loss (3 times a week is sufficient to maintain health). Activities that use the large leg muscles burn the most calories. These activities also tone the lower body quite effectively. Think in terms of
power walking, jogging, biking, skating, swimming laps, jumping rope, dancing, racquetball, and jumping jacks. To make sure that you're burning fat, you need to be sweating and huffing and puffing. In addition, do some good stretches and some strength training.
