Is there such thing as Heart Rate tooo low?!

Question: Is there such thing as Heart Rate tooo low.?
Im 17, 143 lbs and i play basketball i just took my Resting heart rate and it was 57 in a minute. I was in Flagstaff Arizona last week and i took my resting heart rate there and it was 85 in a minute and I live in Alaska. Im not sure if im in shape or not but my body fat percent is about 12%. i was wondering if 57 beats per minute is too low or what and if i should "raise" my heart rate.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
"Normal" heartrate is 60-100, right. Well for someone who is active and in shape a low resting heartrate may be your normal and perfectly healthy for you.
Take Lance Armstrong, for example. It's reported that when he's asleep his HR can dip as low as 35!!
57 is not too far away from 60 so I wouldn't stress too much about it. You are doing good for your body by exercising and there is no need in "raising" your resting HR by doing anything extra. The heart beats about 2.5 billion times in a person's lifetime. So allow it some rest, its not going to hurt it.Health Question & Answer

Both numbers are normal resting rates. 57 is a bit low to be honest but if your BFP is only 12% it is safe to assume you work out. Professional athletes have resting heart rates as low as 38 BPM. If you exercise a lot I would not worry about these numbers. If you do not exercise regularly then you should see a doctor ASAP as it could be something really really bad.

It sounds like your in very good shape. a low heart rate in the 50's is ok, but if it goes into the 40's you should see a doctor. But for now i wouldn't worry.Health Question & Answer

Yes, low heart rate. See a doctor, it could be a sign of a serious ailment.Health Question & Answer
