How to get fit as fast as possible but without causing harm to my body.?!


Question: How to get fit as fast as possible but without causing harm to my body..?
I'de like to get fit, i tried going for a run in the morning but I couldn't get more than a few hundred metres before having to stop and walk, it was very stop and start, ide like to run but I need to get a bit more fit before I can properly, I have a good quality mountain bike, I can ride for long distances, how do you get fit riding a bike.? Hills or high speed riding.? I have an hour to use in the mornings.
