Does hypothyroidism or similar conditions really exist? I say no.?!

Question: Does hypothyroidism or similar conditions really exist.? I say no..?
People claim that no matter what they do they just can't lose weight because they have some condition of some sort. I think these are just excuses. I am kind of a chubby guy myself but know that it's because I don't eat as good as I should and I drink to much beer. When I dedicate myself to losing weight, I can easily. The problem with most people is that they are trying to lose weight the wrong way and they think there's an easy way to do so. There isn't. If you commit yourself to it and do it properly, you will lose 1-2 pounds a week. Any of you who think they have some problem or condition that prevents you from losing weight, send me an email and I'm certain I can tell you why you aren't losing weight based on your choice of food and exercise.

I don't have anything against overweight people (obviously since I am too), but I do have something against those that make up every excuse there is to be overweight. Health Question & Answer

Hypothyroidism does exist, I have battled with that since the fourth grade (30 years) and it does cause serious health problems if not treated properly. Although I do not think it should be used as an excuse to be overweight. I am not nor have I ever been overweight, I exercise and eat healthy. People that use that as an excuse for their weight are not balancing their lives or their conditions properly.Health Question & Answer

The term "overweight" spells out different things to different people. It's a good idea to set off at the beginning, and establish if you are really overweight for your size or not, by working out your BMI (Body Mass Index). You can understand how to do it at the web portal in the box below, they have a lot of instruction, I lost 9 pounds by using their methods.Health Question & Answer

I would just like to say i agree, im overweight too and its because i can not control when to eat (well i can but chose not to) and the foods i choose to eat are normally always bad, i like to eat out too so that is my problem.
However when i have put my mind to it i have done very well so know i can do it but its being bothered!
Health Question & Answer

Yes these diseases do exist.

Do all people who say they have hypothyroidism actually have it.? No.
Does that mean nobody has it.? Of course not.

There are people in denial about the reason for their weight problems, but that doesn't discount the fact that there are people out there with legitimate glandular problems.Health Question & Answer

That condition does exist. But that isn't the cause of most people's weight issues. People also are not "big boned", that is so stupid. Health Question & Answer

You are kidding, right.? I have been diagnosed with it through blood tests and have to take meds. to higher my levels.

Sure, anyone can lose weight if they eat & exercise better, but certain conditions just make it a tad bit more difficult. If person A who doesn't have it eats better & exercises, it may take them X amount of time to see results. Person B does the same stuff, but since they have a slow thyroid, it may take them 2X (twice as long) to see the same results. No medical condition PREVENTS people from losing weight, but there ar a whole bunch that do make it more difficult.

That being said, I eat well & exercise & my weight is fine. I was a bit on the higher end of being normal weight but once I started the meds & eating better & working out, things got better (but, it took longer than a normal person would take.

I understand where you are coming from with saying that people use it as an excuse (as they are shoving a donut in their mouth), but to throw out a blanket statement like that is just plain ignorant.Health Question & Answer

Hypothyroidism does cause people to have a difficult time losing weight, but it doesn't make weight loss impossible.

A lot of people don't like having to work that extra bit to lose weight, because it's "unfair."

In a lot of ways, I agree with them. It's very annoying that someone who doesn't have the condition can moderately change their habits and achieve weight loss, whereas a concerted effort and a lot of willpower is required to lose weight in their case.

It doesn't make them any lazier than anyone else, it's just something to think about before judging them.

Everyone has an excuse at one time or another, and I think hypothyroidism is, at least, one of the more valid excuses. The same can be said for people undergoing therapy for PCOS. Most of the therapies for PCOS cause weight gain, and the effort required to counteract it can be overwhelming.

My excuses of having no time, insomnia and others are all kinda lame compared to a medical condition.Health Question & Answer

Hi. I have Hypothyroidism, and i am not, or have never been overweight. I'm 5'8, and weigh 100 lbs. Actually, i am very underweight. I am very careful about what i eat, and know what is ok to eat, and what is not. I also have never exercised, and believe i stay thin by eating the right way. By the way, i'm 49, and have never weighed more then 110lbs my whole life ( and yes, i've had children ). I think it can be done, but the problem is it's something that a person has to work at doing, and i think a lot of people don't want to take the time to work at it. I would never say that a person can't be overweight because of an illness tho. I believe that is sometimes the case. But if you have a condition like that, you have to be willing to change your lifestyle, which for some people is very hard to do :-)Health Question & Answer
