Question: Whats the best way to gain muscle to be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.?
I need to be able to carry 50 pounds for my job. I will need to be able to carry it for a long distance. I can currently lift and comfortably carry around 35 pounds for a distance. How is a safe effective way to increase the weight and distance I can carry something. also, I am a girl (in case you didnt notice) so I would like to make sure that however I get the strength that I don't get those gross huge muscles too!Health Question & Answer

I hate when girls say they fear getting gross huge muscles.

It's MUCH harder for a girl to gain muscle mass to the degree that men do. It has to do with less testosterone in our systems.

Chances are that to lift and carry 50 pounds, you won't need anything nearly as big as you're imagining. And you'd have to work out a heck of a lot harder than you're probably willing to.

Go to the gym and use dumbbells. Instead of using heavy weights and low reps, choose lower weights and lots and lots of reps of different exercises. There are probably online resources to show you different exercises to work your biceps and triceps. Don't forget to work your upper and lower back muscles as well.

It seems counterintuitive to use lower weights, but building muscle is building muscle, and you're looking for stamina and endurance, not short bursts of strength.Health Question & Answer
