i haven't heard anything about acne being cleared by fish oil.

however, i did used to take them as supplement to my diet. obviously they give you the Omega 3 fatty acids. you can also get some that combine other ingredients as well.

they are more for health and concentration than anything else. I don't know about weight gain, but it is just a tablet of oil, so i would expect they'd be laiden with quite a few calories.

My diet was low in omega 3 so the tablets were good and, although i'm not certain, they aided in my ability to stay focused on my school tasks.

I think once a day, preferably in the morning is a good dosage (depending on the tablet size), but the bottle will most likely tell you how often to pop them.

They are likely to leave a fishy aftertaste. even though you don't taste it going down, as soon as the gel of the tablet starts to dissolve there is a distinct fishy taste that develops in the back of your throat. it also makes burping somewhat distateful :p

to get rid of acne though, i recommend seeing your doctor and asking for looking at antibiotic options if you haven't already done so. the only possible problem with antibiotics though, is that our societies proliferate usage of them exposes bacteria to them and can lead to strains that are completely resistant <-- don't quote me on that though because it may not be the same with the particular antibiotics used for skin problems.

you could also see about the pill. you might have to try a couple of different brands, but many of my friends have had GREAT success with clearing their skin by using this contraceptive. you doc can tell you all about possible side effects of them (they are very minimal and are pretty much restricted to possible irregular menstral cycle, i think)

anyway, i think there are much better options for acne than fish oil. but the only way to find out whether it works is to give it a go.

good luck, and there are worse things in the world than i pimply face.
:)Health Question & Answer

Fish oil pills contain high concentrations of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Data suggests that the proper ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 Fatty Acids helps to reduce or mediates the inflammatory processes in the body and helps with cardiovascular health. The reduction in inflammation leads to decreased pain that would otherwise be caused. I am not sure if it actually helps with skin health, other than the possible effect it would have on the inflammation around the areas that breakout. However, the fish oil, or flax seed oil supliments help you in other ways.

A lot of modern day nutritional intake consists of a ratio of of anywhere from 10 : 1 to upwards of 30 : 1 of Omega-6 to Omega-3. The recommended ratio is roughly 3 or 5 : 1 of Omega-6 to Omega-3.

Most studies have yet to find an actual link between diet and acne, something I personally find to be very odd. Diet impacts every aspect of your body, as it is the supply of fuel and building material used by the body. I suggest cutting out all of your sugary drinks, such as, juices, sodas, "power drinks", and gatorade type drinks. Replace it with the proper amount of water and perhaps some tea. Reduce the amount of red meat you consume; most diets contain way more protien than we actually need. Increase the amount of fruits and vegatables you consume, especially green-leafy vegatables. Make sure you are getting the proper vitamins and minerals. Exercising regularly will also help.

I wouldn't take pills of it though as fish oils now days tend to be high in mercury, which is very bad for you. Fish oils are often high in vitamins A and D and have lots of omega-3 fatty acids, which improves heart health and can improve joint function from arthritis. As vitamins A and D are fat-soluble, too much of them can be toxic, another reason why I wouldn't take supplements. Bottom line, Fish Oils are beneficial, but should not be taken in excess, and the best place to get them is from eating fish, not from extracted oils in supplements.
