Question: Why is it ok for an adult to diet but not a child.?

Im twelve and im going on a diet, im not absolutely disgustingly fat but my belly does stick out a bit,,,i weigh about 87 pounds for those wondering and im about 5ft,,,and Im going to start dieting, having 500 cals a day instead of 1000 ect, when im 13, everyone is telling me im stupid and yet when my mum, who isnt fat at all says she is everyone accepts it! Hi,

You don't need to "Diet", just learn what foods to eat and which to avoid. You don't need to cut calories, since they are the ones that give you energy and are use for many functions in the body including the overall growth.

If you are cutting calories by avoid junk food, sodas, sweets, friend, etc.. then that is good, but you need to replace those lost calories with good foods such as whole grain cereals, oatmeal, whole bread, fruits, vegetables, etc..

You just need to find a balance.

Yeah, you're still growing, and your body desperately needs nutrients more than a fully grown body. Don't cut your calories like that. Instead, cut out candies, sodas, and other snack or fatty foods, and eat more vegetables. Cut down on red meats and stick to lean ones like fish or chicken. Drink plenty of water. Most of all, exercise. It's exercise that will help you lose your extra weight.

there is nothing wrong with a child eating correctly.

in fact, if more parents would teach their kids how to eat correctly, we wouldn't have an obesity problem. or an anorexia problem either. the problem is, most parents have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to eating correctly. even most doctors don't have the best advice.

one problem i see with your plan is just a misperception you have.

it seems like you believe that its as easy as cutting calories to lose fat. its not.

at your current weight, you should eat 1200 calories every day. in a perfect scenario, your tummy will flatten out but your scale weight will remain the same, maybe even rise. how is this possible.? its called body re-composition. meaning we drop bodyfat but gain muscle.

everyone, girls and boys, can use more muscle, since muscle burns fat.just sitting there reading my reply, your muscle is burning fat. and your fat, is not burning any fat. its only keeping you warm.

also, start an exercise program. get active.

500 is way to little for anyone
and it is not ok for only an adult to diet
no matter what age you are you should be allowed to diet
