Question: 10 points to best answer- advice badly needed thanks:).?
im new to weight-training, so i was thinking, if i did 12-15 reps with 3 sets per exercise one month and then the next i used heavier weights and did reps 8- 12, would this make me strong and tonned.

im paranoid of being bulky, but i wont get bulky unless i take protein shakes and eat alot of calories right.? also, i do 30 minutes of cardio before breakfast.

any advice would be appreciated. thanks:)Health Question & Answer

yes and no. YES you are right, you will get BULKIER if you drink protein shakes, consuming MORE calories, doesn't make sense.

Like the post above me says, lighter weights (not too light, enough for you to pick up with out much strain) but more reps = toned body...

when you use heavier weights, you are making your muscles rip and repair themselves with protein, making them bigger/bulkier...you don't want to do that...you want to do a lot of cardio, to burn the layer of fat on your body...EAT FEWER CALORIES...and use lighter weights, but more reps...this will "cut" you up...and not bulk you up.Health Question & Answer

to bulk up 8-12 reps is required

for pure strength1-5 reps

for hypertrophy (toning) 12-15 reps

so if you want to be strong and developer hypertrophy you can do it on different months as you have sated but the best way i find is one session of strength then one session of hypertrophy and so on.

protein will not make you bulk up so don't avoid it protein is Essential for toning muscle as well the only way your muscles will bulk is if you train them to.

lighter weights with more reps will make you more toned than bulky. i would continue the 12-15 reps but after a month, you can increase the weight a tiny bit as you will be strong by then. also try different exercises for the same muscles so you don't plateau in the training. good luck!Health Question & Answer

I talked to my fitness trainer about how not to bulk up. He told me just not to use a lot of weights. Using small weights and building on your reps would be better for toning without bulking up. I also used belly dancing and really slimmed down!

I'm not an expert but that's what worked for me.Health Question & Answer
