Having A Hard Time Accepting My Body...?!

Question: Having A Hard Time Accepting My Body....?
I just got back from a 5 week stay at an inpatient eating disorders clinic where i went from 80lbs to 95lbs ( im 17, 5'4). I am having a difficult time accepting my new body. My stomach especially bothers me. I feel like i have a pouch that wasnt there before and i feel like my waist is so big. I hear it's common for anorexics to store weight here, but will it ever redistribute itself over time.? None of my old pants fit me, which makes me feel especially bad. What can i do.? I feel awful, but i definitely dont want to lose weight and relapse. Will the weight in my stomach area redistribute.?

ThanksHealth Question & Answer

First of all, I'd like to congratulate you on working towards a better weight. That in itself should be something you're proud of.

What is probably bothering you the most is the drastic change in your body in less than two months. You're not used to seeing yourself like this. I would suggest having a parent or friend take lots of pictures of you. Look at these pictures and honestly ask yourself, "Do I look overweight.? Big.?" You probably don't. It's just the sudden change that makes you think this way. A second step that will help is storing your old clothes away - seeing them over and over again will just make you feel worse. Go on a shopping spree and get this to make you feel better. :)

If you have a full-length mirror, I think it'd be helpful to get rid of it...Or at least only look at it once in a while. It really depends on the person...Some people, if they look in the mirror every day, grow used to their appearance and start liking themselves as they are...While others stress out every time they look in the mirror. Do what you think is right for you.

I'm not sure if this would help you, but it would definitely help me: Take a tape measure and measure your waist. Compare it to most size charts online. You probably won't be any larger than a size 1; you'll probably be a 0 or a 00. This may help you realize that you're making good progress and while you're larger than you were before, you're still on the thin side. I'm 13 and 5'3", and I weigh 98 pounds right now.

The last step to feeling better about your body is exercising and eating well. Your stomach fat will redistribute itself if you exercise. Daily sit-ups, a cardio class, muscle training...Any of these will help. Balancing exercise and a good diet will let you feel better about gaining more weight as well, because it's not couch potato weight you're gaining, but healthy weight. Eat lots of fruits and veggies but indulge yourself every now and then and eat some sweets.

Swimming is also a good sport that may help increase your appetite. Swimming has been proven to increase your appetite, and as a swimmer, I agree. Its a sport that burns lots of calories, which is probably why. It helps a lot though, I think.

It will take some time for you to be satisfied with your body and be happier about gaining weight. Just relax and make sure that you do everything you can to look the way you want, and make sure that you have people around you (family, friends) who will pressure you (in a good way) to keep doing it.

Good luck! :)Health Question & Answer

first of all, congratulations on getting help.
at first, your body may seem a little inporportional. and youre most likely going to gain more weight. because at 5'4" and 95 pounds, youre still underweight. your body should eventually evenly redistribute your weight but until then, keep it up and within a while, you should look healthy (:

Relax. It'll eventually even out. Whatever you do, don't lose weight. It's just because you've gained weight so fast. Don't worry. You have a healthy body now. Congrats.Health Question & Answer

The body doesnt work that way. Fat doesnt just move around by itself.

Just be glad you're alive and not obese. You will eventually be at peace with youself, it just may take some time.Health Question & Answer

do some toning exercises and build a little mussel, join a class. it will also increase your appetiteHealth Question & Answer
