I asked my mom to start cooking with olive oil from now on becuase i heard it was healthier, and i read somewhere that drinking one or two table spoons of olive oil will speed up your metabolism, but is it bad for you if your just drinking it straight up.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Well, Olive Oil is very high in calories...so in that respect it could...

HOWEVER... fat is subjective. If you eat 10,000 calories of crisco, and 10,000 calories of Olive Oil...you will get fatter from the Crisco.

Reason being that Crisco is lard, and trans fats and unhealthy saturated fats, where Olive Oil is more or less lube for your heart, and when you have a healthy heart, that is equal to a healthhy waist line.

That's when calculating a BMI, we often need to take into consideration the size of a persons waist line...a higher measurment around the waist is often a sign of heart disease, or risk there of.

It's like gaining 5 pounds off lettuce, and 5 pounds of cheeseburgers...the fat is different. Lettuce would likely fill you out evenly, thighs especially for a female, without adding much to the abdonimal region, where as a cheeseburger would go strait for your chin and stomach.

This is proven.

Health Question & Answer

Yes. Olive oil has 9 cal/gram, you get fat when you take in more calories than you burn, and your body stores those calories as fat. As an alternative to other oils, like vegetable oil or peanut oil, olive oil has more mono-unsaturated fats, which are less easily stored b y your body, but drinking it or increasing your caloric intake will just make you fat.Health Question & Answer
