Tips for dieting please?!

Question: Tips for dieting please.?
Ok. so I am in need of some help....

my weight is starting to spiral out of control. I have normally averaged about 12 and a half stone, which is a little overweight, but nothing toooo bad (I am 5 foot 7 btw) but I broke my ankle in april, and since then I have pilled on the pounds, and now weigh nearly 15 stone!!

I just cannot seem to stop eating...I eat incredibly fast (which I know doesnt help) and I can also eat a LOT of food. I just NEVER seem to feel full. I know people say that, but I actually never do.

What can i do.?.? please dont just say stop eating. I gave up smoking easier than this!! Health Question & Answer

It isn't about stopping eating or dieting like those stupid womens magazines suggest. You have to EAT HEALTHY, and EXCERCISE!!!!!!!! Its more about a lifestyle change than anything else.

For a healthy diet, you need to be eating small to medium meals regularly. 4 or even 5 times a day. Each meal (apart from breakfast which should preferably be fibre rich), should contain a balanced ammount of carbohydrates for energy, (from potatoes, rice and pasta, etc) protien (from fish, chicken, occassional red meat is fine, soya is good too) and plenty of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (simple fresh fruit and veg). Eat like this and make sure you are well hydrated (fruit juice is as good as water, any fluid counts, but some fluids have negative effects too, such as alcohol or caffiene rich drinks.)

You can have a wide range of healthy meals with this, from Thai, Chinese, Italian, British, Indian, etc. Just make sure each meal contains balanced ammounts of these three. On the bright side too, fresh veg and rice and pasta is a lot cheaper than crappy junk food!

This doesn't mean you cant have chocolate or pizza/takeaway/etc, just save them as very occassional treats.

The big secret to keeping a healthy weight and staying healthy is EXCERCISE, particularly cardio excercise (running, swimming, cycling, etc).

Cardio exercise will not only burn calories and reduce your body fat levels, but will also improve your resting heart rate and lung function, making you healthier.

Strength training will help you strengthen and tone your muscles. Heavy weights with short reps/sets will build your fast twitch muscle fibres and build size, power and strength, but if you use light to medium weights with lots of reps/sets, you wont build size, but you will tone up your body and train muscle endurance. This will obviously make you 'look' healthier and more toned, but will also increase your metabolism (as your muscles demand more energy) so you will burn calories faster.

As far as excercise goes, you should aim to strike a balance between cardio training and strength training, this way you will build good strong and toned muscle, but also keep your body fat levels down and increase your heart and lung performance, making you much fitter and healthier.

Hope this helps.

Eat but minimise your portions. Try and get more liquid in your system rather than solids (preferably water). Change your full fats to low fats and skimmed. Chose an energy drink have one a day however exercise as well. Never go "cold turkey". Make sure you eat you are trying to lose weight not starve. Hope this helps.Health Question & Answer

Hi, Lulubelz, I think you've just gotten yourself in a funk that you need to get out of. Two things you mentioned are killer on a diet as you've discovered: eating fast, and eating large amounts. I have a suggestion that won't be easy, but will help you break this habit you've gotten into. Try this diet for 2 weeks. The first 2-3 days will be hard, but just make yourself power through. I firmly believe that we can make ourselves do anything for 14 days! This diet is "drastic" but you can make it healthier by choosing to eat only healthy foods such as lean protein, fruits, veggies, whole-grains, and low-fat dairy.
1) Go on the 5-4-3-2-1 diet

It works really well, but choose healthy foods to eat (lean protein, veggies, fruits, whole-grains, low-fat dairy, heart-healthy oils). You don't want your metabolism to get sluggish because that slows weight loss.
2) Give up all sweet drinks (even diet soda) and drink mostly water
3) Give up all extra sodium (don't salt your food and don't eat salty food)
4) Give up sugar (this is easy after the first three days)
5) Be active 30-60 minutes a day (the more the better for your metabolism and for burning calories)
6) Adults need to give up alcohol (it slows weight loss)

At the end of 2 weeks, you will be down about 5-10 pounds but the best part is that you will have broken your 2 bad habits of eating fast and eating too much at one time. At that point, you can switch over to a more sensible way of eating to lose the rest of your weight. Something like this would be appropriate at that time:

First of all, my best suggestion is to learn to eat healthy.

That means understand the food pyramid, the food groups, the recommended servings, etc. That is how you should eat for life! If you eat that way and have 3 small, healthy meals a day and 2 small, healthy snacks, you will lose weight. Each meal should be less than 400 calories and each snack should be about 100-150 calories. Eating highly nutritious foods is the key, so think in terms of lean protein, veggies, whole-grains, fruits, low-fat dairy, and heart-healthy oils.

Make water your main source of hydration and save the sweet drinks (even diet) for special occasions. Eliminate as much salt and sugar from your diet as you can.

The biggest component to fast weight loss is going to be your workout. You will want to make sure you do a good (30 minute minimum) cardio workout every day for weight loss (3 times a week is sufficient to maintain health). Activities that use the large leg muscles burn the most calories. These activities also tone the lower body quite effectively. Think in terms of power walking, jogging, biking, skating, swimming laps, jumping rope, dancing, racquetball, and jumping jacks. To make sure that you're burning fat, you need to be sweating and huffing and puffing. In addition, do some good stretches and some strength training.
