It wont help you lose weight, but it will help you not gain weight. When you sleep, you metabolism slows to a crawl. Dont eat within 2 hours of going to sleep. OR, try eating something high in protein like chicken, egg whites or having a protien shake right before bed. Its more what you eat after a certain time that matter. You will need protein to go in to your body to recover from the day whether its from regular daily activies or a stressful workout.
Casein protein that found in milk and cheese is best for this since it take about 7 hours to digest. So it will last you through your sleepy time.

No, because it will just make you crave for more because you were abstained. Eat your breakfast and lunch well, and don't eat too Dinner.
