Question: Celery makes you lose weight - myth.?
lately because i am a college student all ive been eating is peanut butter (loads of it)....celery...tuna.. pickles..and taking my vitamin pills because i already know how crappy im eating haha its a bad list of food..

anyway i thougt maybe i could stick to healthy celery for a while also because im trying to lose a bit of weight (5 lbs) and then i found out that the celery having negative calories is a myth! and that it actually is just like a zero calorie food and just doesnt add calories (as opposed to subtracting). is this true.?.?.?.?.?.?.?.?

and if i eat that food the rest of the week should i lose wegiht.?.?.?
i walk to school (2 miles) and its snowy.

Yes its a myth...
Celery just doesn't have any calories, so it doesn't add on to the caloric foods you've consumed.

However, celery is a fiber food and will help you... um.. "number 2" better, and you're not losing fat, you still lose a bit of weight. Keyword: BIT!

The foods that you are eating are not necessarily unhealthy, as a college student myself, I know people who it HORRIBLE foods.

Continue eating what you're eating just limit the amounts and get at least a good 20 min walk each day.

Don't forget lots of water and your vitamin pill!

If you find that you still cannot lose 5 pounds, you are probably not drinking enough water.

Try it. What do you have to lose... besides weight.? lol

that my dear is called wannarexia. its temporary anorexia. you would lose weight , but as soon as you went back to eating healthy your weight would shoot back up.

you slow your metabolism down and when you eat again, its stills low for awhile, and you gain the wight back.

celery does have "negative calories" depending on who you ask. your body burns more calories digesting it than it gets from it. especially if its cold. Health Question & Answer

I believe the answer lies in the fact (.?) that your body burns more calories digesting celery than are contained in celery.

But please don't stick to a celery only diet because of this - even for just a couple of days. You will find yourself in all sorts of trouble - lack of concentration and focus being a main concern as you are a student. If you want to lose a few pounds 'quickly' stick to a detox or low GI eating plan suitable for your age group. Peanuts are good and so is tuna ... a food cannot have negative calories. However, celery for example (unlike water) takes energy (aka calories) to digest. So in a sense it is negative calories because it has 0 calories and you burn calories to digest it. also celery is a good roughage food, which helps you poo which is good for your body and is good for weighty loss. As for the losing weight part, every person is different so I could not say for sure if that diet would help you lose weight.To lose weight in the long term, however it is important to eat several small portions throughout the day and make sure you are getting all of your vitamins from food not from a pill. also, try to avoid simple carbs and sweet beverages (including juice). for you quick weight loss also avoid packaged foods and anything else that contains salt, including salt you put on food.
