I really want to become more flexible and get into the split again, what are the best ways and exercise/stretches to achieve this, and about how long will it take.? Thank You!Health Question & Answer

Do some form of exercise that gives you flexibility training, like yoga for instance, if you do that everyday then you will see results in your flexibility.

After you are more flexible, then start easing your way into the splits, go into it until you get to the point of gentle tension (not pain). Hold that position for 5 breath cycles (inhale/exhale - that's one cycle - make them deep breaths too). If you can't hold it for 5 cycles, then hold it for as many as you can working your way up to five breath cycles.

Repeat this with the opposite leg forward. So if you start right leg forward first, repeat with your left leg going forward.

I would do each leg forward twice - and shake them out in between stretches. What will enable you to get into the splits is having your inner thigh muscles fully stretched. Do no more than twice in each session. Do this daily (only after you have become more flexible). Start slowly and work your way gently into it. Then do likewise for the straddle splits (legs out to each side) once you are flexible enough to get into a deeper split.

As well, a common yoga stretch is to sit with your legs in straddle position, legs out to each side - but you may probably start with them a little wider than hip distance apart at the beginning (as far as you can at this point) and put your hands in front of you. Walk your hands out on the floor ONLY to the point of gentle tension and NOT to the point of pain - this will ruin your stretching and injure your muscles. Hold your position for as many inhale-exhale breath cycles as you can (starting with 1 or 2 and working your way up to 5 breath cycles)

Never never never stretch yourself to the point of pain, only stretch to where you feel that gentle stretch tension, each day you will see that you can stretch further and more deeply, but it takes time and effort and nothing else.Health Question & Answer

Hey! im a dancer and a gymnast. Im one of the most bendable girls in my dance class. My advice to you would be to stretch daily. Find a song you really like. Put it on and when it starts get into the split position. strtch throughout the song and when it stops slowly come out and shake out your legs. Do this with the other leg too. Try to pick a peppy song over 1minute 30sec. Good luck Have Fun!!

If youre having trouble with a song try "Untoutched" by "The Veronicas" . (keep in mind im young).

these are the stretches i used to learn the splits for cheer! they really do work if you are consistant with it!
