Fluctuating your calories can be a good thing, but not how your doing it. You should never eat just one meal a day. That puts your body in starvation mode. This means on those days when you eat normal, or eat a lot, your body holds onto every calorie that you give it, because it doesn't know when you are going to give it more food. So it will eventually lead to weight gain.

If you are trying to maintain your weight you should take in no more calories than your body burns on a daily basis. You can figure this out by looking up an online basal (or resting) metabloic calculator. It just asks your weight and height, and will tell you approximately how many calories you burn a day. You should not consume more than your body needs to perform normal activity.

However, if you are going to workout your body needs more fuel to get the job done. Therefore, you need to consume more calories.

For example, on a daily basis my body consumes approximately 1600 calories a day, but I also workout for 2 hours a day. So I need to take in a little more than that. I limit my calories to 1800 a day tho, because I am trying to lose weight so I do a little more some days, and a little less some days, so that my metabolism doesnt shut down when it gets used to the amount of calories I consume.

As for the Christmas holiday. Try hard to limit everything you eat to small portions. It is ok to endulge a little, but try to not to over do it. Everything will be ok in moderation. also try to workout if you dont do this already. It will help burn off the extra.

As far as the fluctuating calories. Eat five small meals a day. This will keep your metabolism fueld, and burning off what you eat. Starvation, or little eating will only be counter productive! good luck!!!!Health Question & Answer
