I don't know how old you are or the sort of food you eat. I also don't know how active you are or HOW overweight you really are....but.... when I was young (in my teens/early twenties) I could lose 15 pounds in two weeks by consuming about 600-800 healthy calories a day. I do NOT recommend this for long-term....first of all....when I try to do this now....my body goes into "starvation" mode and I not only DON'T lose a lot....but, when I go off this "diet" I put more weight on. But...if you want to try it, here's an example of what I would eat.

Breakfast: 1 hard boiled egg
1 peach or nectarine (or some similar fruit--this time
of year peaches and nectarines are scarce!)

OR

1 slice wheat or whole grain toast
OR 1 Thomas' Light Multi-grain English muffin
1 slice cheese (cheddar, swiss or muenster) melted


LUNCH: 1/2 cantaloupe
1 scoop cottage cheese (maybe 1/2 - 2/3 cup)

OR

1 burger patty (NO BUN)
lettuce, tomato (no salad dressing)


DINNER skinless, boneless chicken breast - grilled or baked
(not fried)
green vegetable of your choice with NO butter or
margarine (broccoli, green beans, zucchini)
salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, onion)
make your own dressing: 2 TBS olive oil
2 TBS lemon juice
2 TBS red wine vinegar
1 clove garlic minced
1 tsp honey

OR

substitute broiled or baked fish or 1 lean pork chop
for chicken....rest is the same. (You can put
a tsp olive oil on or spray PAM in skillet to cook
and you could marinate any of the above --
chicken, fish or pork -- in the salad dressing or
a no-cal (or VERY LOW CALORIE) marinade to
give flavor and moisture--also, use any seasonings
you like--I use garlic and minced onion or Mrs.
Dash.)

If you have to have a snack at night, have an apple or an orange. If you need a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack, eat a banana or just 8 almonds or walnuts.

Drink a LOT of water between meals. Do NOT drink diet soda!! You can drink coffee or tea or iced coffee or iced tea...but water is IMPORTANT in addition to or instead of coffee or tea.

If you don't exercise now, just walk for 30 minutes a day most days.

Researchers have found that obese adults who ate three servings of fat-free yogurt (if you want to sweeten it, just add Splenda or Equal) a day as part of a reduced-calorie diet lost 22% more weight and 61% more body fat than those who simply cut calories and didn't bone up on calcium. Yogurt eaters also lost 81% more fat in the stomach area than non-yogurt eaters. Not only did yogurt help the study participants lose more weight -- the average weight loss was 14 pounds (in one month several lost up to 11 lbs)-- they were about twice as effective at maintaining lean muscle mass. This is a critical issue when dieting -- you want to lose fat, not muscle. Muscle helps burn calories, but it is often compromised during weight loss.

In the study, researchers compared the effects of adding yogurt to a reduced-calorie diet on weight loss in 34 healthy obese adults who were divided into two groups.

For 12 weeks, the first group ate three 6-ounce servings of fat-free yogurt providing about 1,100 milligrams of calcium per day; the other group ate only one serving of dairy providing 400-500 milligrams of calcium per day. Both groups ate a controlled diet that contained 500 fewer calories than normal to stimulate weight loss.
