Basal Metabolic Rate? I don't get it?!

Question: Basal Metabolic Rate.? I don't get it.?
According to a few places, just based on my Basal Metabolic Rate, I burn almost 2000 calories doing nothing!

So, what I Want to know is. How come most people say to burn more than you eat...I often barely make it to 1,500 just because I'm busy or not hungry.

So wouldn't that mean I'm burning 500 more than I eat...by doing nothing.? That makes no sense to me.? Can someone explain to me how your Basal Metabolic Rate works into the calories going in vs the calories getting burned off.?

Thanks :)

Some websites I went to and figured out my BMR.

Answers:
Yes, you are burning more calories than you consume by doing nothing if your BMR is 2,000 and you are consuming 1,500 calories. BMR matters in weight loss because you have to factor that into the whole calories in vs. calories out concept. Even if your BMR exceeds your caloric intake you should still exercise because it's healthy for you.

However, you should increase the caloric intake if your BMR is at 2,000, and if you exercise then the caloric intake should be increased further. If you're exercising your caloric intake should be about 2,500. Only decrease the intake if you don't see any weight loss. The most important part in dieting is eating healthily.Health Question & Answer
