What should I do about my couch saying I have to lose weight?!

Question: What should I do about my couch saying I have to lose weight.?
I go to a very well known high school where excellent athletics is a tradition. I am on the track team and I am a very good sprinter. I am 5'7 and weigh 136 pounds. I do not believe a couch is aloud to tell a high school 16 year-old girl she has to lose 6 pounds. My male couch told me i had to do that. I've noticed in past years that he has made some rather rude remarks about my weight. I never ever thought i had a problem. All the girls are just very naturally slim. I am slim, it's just I was "blessed" with a completely genetically big butt. I have a flat stomach and everything is slim, except for my butt. People like me for it though. They think its nice to have a chick with curves in that area, but my couch doesn't think so. Anyways, I feel like quiting now because I feel like I'll get harassed by him and end up reporting him. I don't want to because hes retiring this year and he is overall an awesome coach. I just don't want to cause conflict and tell him off either. It's not just him but I feel I really need the break from track and do it my senior year(next year). Does anyone have any advice on what I should do.? I don't want to lose weight because I like my body the way it is.Health Question & Answer

You definitely do not need to lose weight and I can't believe your coach would say that. Good for you for realizing he is full of crap. My suggestion, so that you can avoid confrontation with your coach, would be to go to the school nurse. Ask her what a healthy weight is for you and whether or not you are overweight (even though we know you aren't...a healthy weight for a 5'7" female is 128-160 lbs.). Of course she will tell you you aren't, and it will probably prompt her to ask you why you'd think that and you can then bring up what your coach said. Or you can bring it up yourself saying "I was just wondering, because Coach so-and-so said I need to lose 6 lbs....). Chances are, she will approach the coach herself, and she will probably leave your name out of it (especially if you ask her to).

He needs to be held accountable for what he is telling any of his players, and for the unrealistic (and unhealthy) advice or orders he is giving out. It's not acceptable. Luckily, you are smart and you realize that he does not know what he's talking about and that you're already slimmer than most people your age, and at a very healthy weight. But in the future, he could tell another girl to lose weight, she won't be as smart as you, and she'll develop an eating disorder (he could already be telling other girls on your team to lose weight and they just haven't said anything). My advice is definitely to go to the nurse, let him hear it from her. He won't get fired, but you may save some other girls from having to deal with what you are.Health Question & Answer

well if you feel like you want to take a break until your senior year then i would do that, and when you go back he will be gone so really its a win win for you. not to mention you wont have to lose the weight.Health Question & Answer

Maybe you can try diet pills. I'm using one and it helps me a lot. I know that it's not dangerous because it's made of natural ingredient.Health Question & Answer

what a dick tell him if he doesn't stop you will report him. if you have a lot of friends on the team I would let them know what is going on so people aren't oblivious.Health Question & Answer

Just Ignore Your Coach. Tell him youll try. Dont Cause Conflict. Hes retiring soon anyway. and like you said apart from this incidient hes a good coach.
